To be frank, this might be the worst delivery experience I've had with a restaurant in Plymouth. Indeed, the lingering taste of herbless beef left on my tongue by the food confirms this thought beyond doubt.
After ordering at around 18:45, we were explicitly told to wait an hour or more for our food - which is absolutely understandable, it could be busy night and that is not a fault of theirs to hold them to - as it would be delivered by one of their staff, who would give us a call prior to and upon arrival. So 40 minutes later on the dot, imagine how terrifying this scenario must be for someone like a young woman living alone, or someone in a vulnerable state: LOUD, violent banging on our windows and front door from multiple directions, one bash immediately after enough circling the property, and no response from the source as to who this random assailant was when I called out to them. Prior to and throughout this, no-one had attempted to call the phone.
I am not proud of my actions - I ultimately hid behind the door waiting for them to go away. So it was quite a shock indeed, when an angry Westcountry voice called my phone 2 minutes later, "I had your order here, you didn't answer so bye then", carrying it away. I called his phone, and he angrily came back. Thrusting the food into my hand, he was yelling, only angrily repeating "you should be prepared" over and over without listening to any concerns I had. "Prepare" for what? I wanted and had paid a disappointly expensive sum of money for a Chinese dinner, not a home invasion simulator.
Angry at this point, I called the restaurant and spoke to someone, who initially defended the violent banging on every window and the front door of my home as "he was just trying to reach me with the food" (I wonder if Michael Myers had ever tried such a defence off-screen?) They also erroneously claimed that the driver did not have my phone number - which is odd because he definitely seemed to have it when he rang me to shout abuse down the phone at me for not stopping him bash my windows and my door. They funnily enough stopped defending the virtues of their more violently-inclined employees when I mentioned how awful the experience had been, and that I was not only going to not come back, but also warn my friends not to invite danger to their home by ordering from New Sizzling China.
All of this would actually have been an unfortunate but perhaps tolerable experience if the food was delicious and worth the frustration. But the beef was dry and flavourless, and my rice somehow tasted like a packet of frozen paella I'd bought at Aldi a few months back. So all in all, I can't really recommend... well...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreJust ordered sweet n sour chicken Hong Kong style, fried noodles, smokey chicken, duck in plum sauce and a Satah sauce. Being honest I've been getting bored with takeaways and sat here hungry but not knowing where to order from as a lot a Chinese takeaways are pretty much the same and especially with the one I used to go to (won't name it) but they seem to have lost the passion for what they do and push out the same old stuff as everyone else. I had never tried sizzling china as being really honest it doesn't look great from the outside but I thought i had tried most of the rest so I gave them a go. The food had a waiting time of 60mins but it arrived in 20mins at the most. The delivery woman was friendly and the temp of the food was so hot which was great. The food is very good so much so I called them to say thank the chef. I would (at least for now) recommend sizzling china if your takeaways are boring you now or just...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe ordered for collection, everything was ready and being bagged up on arrival which was great as we could just pick it up and get going! The woman at the counter was lovely too. All of our food was delicious and nothing was missing (which is an issue we've had at many other chinese places!) and everything was piping hot once we got home. My one complaint is with the crispy lemon chicken that I ordered - it was sat in the lemon sauce which made the batter really soggy (still delicious though)! Would have much preferred to have the sauce in a separate tub. Other than that I have no complaints whatsoever and will definitely be back...
