Anchorage Market — Local services in Alaska

Having moved from downtown, the market feels very condensed and crowded. I understand the appeal of carnival rides, but this certainly changes the feel of the market for me. There is no room for the live performers that used to frequent the downtown space, and there are no fresh produce vendors at all anymore, which is sad, considering that is how the market got its start. We went on a Friday, it was still fun, but apparently there’s less than half the usual vendors. The pictures below show the huge empty area that is supposed to be full! We were disappointed at how few stalls there were. There were maybe 20 in all, and for a long while we were the only buyers, which might explain the lack of booths.
