I loved my little studio apartment at University Village. I lived there for 15 months and only left because I moved to Tucson, AZ.
The kitchen was my favorite. Granite counter tops and black appliances--much more attractive than any kitchen you'll find for the same rent elsewhere in Albuquerque. (Before I signed my lease I looked around extensively and was not impressed with anything else in this price range.)
The kitchen is not for dedicated cooks: you get a microwave and a two-burner hot plate. I supplemented this with a toaster oven I bought on Craigslist for $35. I'm not much into cooking so it worked perfectly for me.
The apartments come furnished and I enjoyed the look of all the furniture. The couch is not the most comfortable so I used the desk chair more than the couch. Rent at University Village is extremely reasonable, especially given that utilities and wifi are included. Fluctuations in the strength and availability of the wifi were very frustrating when I first moved there but the management had it fixed and after that I had no more issues.
Repairs were always attended to with lightning speed. Even when my fridge went kaput they had a new one wheeled in in less than an hour.
I found it a quiet and safe place to live. Occasionally some student parties can be heard near the pool but they don't last late into the night and I never lost any sleep because of it. I often walked at night to get some fresh air and always felt safe. Just as I was moving out they were installing gates on the parking lot for added security.
The sliding magnetic keys for the apartment doors can be a pain because it's easy to lose your key or lock yourself out. Be extra-conscious every time you walk out of your apartment to avoid doing this to yourself.
Management at UV is exceptional. They're strict when they need to be (which I liked--even when it was directed at me--because it keeps the property under control) but they're also kind and friendly. Compared to what I've seen elsewhere, the management, security and maintenance at UV deserve a few courtesy awards!
I would happily live at UV again. I've endured some crappy rentals in my time and this stands out as one of the most pleasant. I was...
Read moreOkay where do I begin? The only good thing about University Village are the amenities Nicole, the assistant manager is a wonderful person she went above and beyond every time for me and my fiancé. James the property manager is the worst possible human being I have ever met in my life and I am a 12 year combat veteran who has seen the worst of humanity all over the world and still none of those places or any of those people that I encountered overseas relate to the utter disrespectfulness that we’ve received from James. Knowing that I’m a veteran, He felt it necessary to call me on the Fourth of July and accuse me of fighting with another tenant when I was nowhere near the area that he said I was at, nor did I speak with any other tenants. This alleged incident would’ve all been on camera however he refused to view it to exonerate me entirely. Instead he brought up things that had nothing to do with him and that had happened three months prior and had the audacity to call the police on me. Now mind you, I am a US marshal so to have the local police called on me as a slap in the face. It was to the point that I filed a restraining order for harassment on Mr. James Metz. Now I’m in the process of moving to a more suitable place. Again not to discourage anyone from living at University Village it would be a wonderful place if Nicole was to take over as property manager and they got rid of James completely, then it would be a wonderful place for anyone at a reasonable price. Nonetheless the only reason I gave this place to stars was because of the service that we received from Nicole. As for everyone else... well, I won’t go there because I’m an adult and I refuse to stoop to anyone else’s level. However beware of University Village as long as James is the...
Read moreThis place is such false advertisement with its name “university village “ You’d think the rent to students or business travelers, But they really let anybody live here which is unfortunate because the price is great/affordable for anybody. Neighbors bringing in homeless people off the street into the apartment across from me, who have obviously lived there very long term. People who are intoxicated/ under the influence of drugs roaming the place. The carpets in the halls smell terrible. Found a huge cockroach within a hour of arriving to my apartment, then more after.. had to keep my drains covered and spray with raid.
The key cards NEVER work to get into the building.. not kidding I would have to slide it 20+ times, multiple times.. which is scary in this location.
I think it’s fine that they let people live there long-term who aren’t travelers/temporary. HOWEVER don’t advertise the place like it’s a “University village” where you’d expect it to be more of a professional population. More like “Motel 8” vibes
Laundry mat only ever has about 2-3 washers available… which is extremely inconvenient obviously.. which they make you report problems on the app bc the office can’t do anything
Also the people who work in the office are extremely rude. Had an issue regarding my “check being returned due to insufficient funds” and charged $100 extra when I called to ask about this, because there was no way my account had insufficient funds, they were very rude and could not prove the matter. They just type up a paper and leave it on your door.
The price is great but you definitely get...
