I have been here times past in the years and loved it, but this was disappointing.

Service- Called 4 times to order food. Kept going to voicemail because no one answered. Ordered carry out over the phone. Told me it would be ready in 20 minutes. I get there and the bottle shop has not put in my order yet and said it would be 30 minutes before it’s ready. I was told 4 different locations to wait on food.

Food- They were out of the Cuban which I ordered, so I got a burger instead. They forgot both our sides for our burgers, so I had to call back and they gave a refund. My wife got bacon on her burger and it had to be the nastiest bacon we have ever tried. It was rubbery and jelly like; did not look like bacon. Her burger was also pretty pink and she ordered well done.

Atmosphere- They had a lot of people working, tons of open tables and only about 6-8 seats at the bar. Their bar could probably hold 20-30 people, but they have the rest of it closed down to service. I asked the host of I could order a beer and just wait outside in the beer garden/outdoor area for my food, since I had 20 minutes. He told me the bar doesn’t service walk up customers and that I would have to get a table. Crazy; can’t even order a beer at a brewery and enjoy it.

Also, when we came a few years ago, their bottle shop was stocked with tons of aged beers I had never heard of or seen before. This trip, it was only a few and all of them are their big box beers you can get anywhere.

Only upside to this whole experience, was the beer was buy 1 get 1 free apparently. Do not plan on...

The Funkatorium had been what I had been looking forward to since I started planning my visit to Asheville. So that may be clouding my judgment as I had such high hopes for this.

I am unbelievably disappointed after my visit. It was oddly busy for a weeknight and there was an event happening at the restaurant it seemed. However, there were several waitstaff that seem to be dedicated to just the regular dining area. My partner and I both felt like we were imposing while we were there. We had to ask to have our order taken after waiting probably ten minutes or so after water was sat down. The waitstaff, except for then hostess, were not welcoming or really even friendly.

We both ordered the same dish and regretted it. The food portions are huge so if you don’t want to carry take away after your meal, plan to split something. The Dennis is really delicious.

The flights were predetermined though many options were available on 3 oz single options. The beer was okay, but we didn’t rush to order another flight or a full size of anything we had had. Not that we could have really ordered anything if we had wanted to.

I would not recommend this to anyone visiting Asheville. I have not been to the Wicked Weed proper location but given my experience here, I’m not likely to make sure I visit there with any limited visit...

Best brewery in South Slope. A truly exceptional experience. When I walked in I was blown away but the sheer size of the indoor and outdoor spaces. It was a beautiful day so we were seated in the outdoor biergarten, which offered an abundance shade.

Our waiter was super pleasant and offered excellent recommendations. What is cool about the menu is the flights are already selected. They are paired for your enjoyment and they absolutely nailed it. The highlight was the watermelon sour and coffee sour (the intrigue alone was enough to enjoy it, but it was also delicious)!

The food they offer is considered elevated pub food and they mostly delivered on that. We ordered a bunch of appetizers including the soft pretzel, pickle plate, and Dr. Dank fries (cheese fries). The pretzel had the perfect combination of the leathery exterior and chewiness of the soft interior. They also coat it in everything seasoning, which elevates it to a new level. The pickle plate included the traditional pickled veggies, but what was the best surprise was pickled cashews and raspberries! They were addicting. The fries were exactly what you expect, bar food. Still a great brewery snack.

I will be dreaming of the day I get to return and try a new...

We had a party of 11 at 1:30 pm on a Saturday in July. Funkatorium is great for big parties! There was a lot of outside seating with long picnic tables and benches. Andrew was our waiter and he was great, gave us really good recommendations! Great atmosphere! We loved all the flowers and plants. It made for a really beautiful backdrop. They also have an event space for weddings, rehearsal dinners, etc. Funkatorium has a huge selection of beer and also a full bar! Their menu is kind of overwhelming, so make sure you really read it or just ask your waiter for recommendations. I got the If You Like Piña Coladas (a beer) and it was amaaaaazing. So drinkable and really tasted like a piña colada. Their other beer and cocktails were also really good! For food, we got 6 Jumbo Whole Wings ($17) with Carolina Gold sauce, Dr. Dank Loaded Cheese Fries ($11), Spinach and Strawberry Salad ($13), Local Tomato BLT ($12), and Side of Fries ($6). Everyone liked what they got, except for the Roasted Cauliflower. It had an interesting taste. Tip: Order the fries without salt so they have to make them fresh. One person got clearly old fries and the fries without salt were clearly fresher and better. I loved Funkatorium! Highly recommend.

I came here yesterday and got the cucumber salad and the angel flight. Both were great and it was so nice to have the option of getting food that isn’t fried or carb heavy. All of the staff I interacted with were nice and helpful and seemed to be the same for the other customers around me as well. I enjoyed it so much that I came back again today and got the smash burger with fries and a flight with a few of the non-barrel aged beers. The burger was delicious but remember, everything is separate so you have to add fries on for a couple of dollars but they are worth it. I enjoyed all of the beers I tried over the last couple days and even if they weren’t 100% my style, they are still well made and definitely perfect for those who love a little extra funkiness (hence “funkatorium”) in their beer. Apparently the regular Wicked Weed tap room close by has more of their standard beers and this one focuses on the sours. Definitely worth a shot whether it’s for the beer, the food or just the good vibes

We recently took a tour at the original Wicked Weed in downtown Asheville and at the end of our tour the guide gave us each a wooden token to use at the Funkatorium. A few days later we took that token to the Funkatorium on South Slope and received our two free samples of sour beer. We were allowed to choose one and then the other one was one that the bartender selected. We liked both of them and ended up staying for a few more samples. (If you know what you like you can also order larger pours). The space is cozy with actual candles on tables and low light. There was a live band warming up in the back room when we arrived. There's also food that you can order, everything from pizza to sandwiches and snacks. There's also a nice gift shop in the back of the building that sells everything from beer to hats to shirts and smaller take-home souveniers. Definitely a fun place to grab a drink or two and if you don't like sours, no worries, they also have a few regular beers on tap as well.
