Unlike the “hidden gem” that is Eurisko, Burial Beer Co was the most recommended brewery of the trip! And yes, to the 40 plus people who said go here, we understand why this is your favorite brewery of the trip. With locations in Asheville, Raleigh and Charlotte, Burial Beer is a name that resonates well the craft beer landscape.
In the spirit of New Orleans, where funeral processions transform into joyous parades, Burial views its products, places, and experiences as celebrations of life itself. They embrace mindfulness and introspection, crafting beers that mirror this ethos. Burial's beer offerings are as diverse as life's experiences. From modern, hop-forward IPAs to tradition-rooted Lagers, adjuncted and barrel-aged Imperial Stouts to nuanced mixed fermentation Wild Ales, they cover the spectrum of beer styles with exceptional craftsmanship.
Our top two stouts of the trip are the “A Generous Characterization Of Those You Remember Otherwise” and “This Is All Much Too Subtle To Be Translated To the Intangible.” Yeah, definitely a mouthful to talk about. AGCOTYRO is a prime example of an imperial stout. The massive 16% coconut, stroop waffle, cinnamon and rum barrel-aged vanilla bean infused body had as much going on as it’s name alludes to. The decadent dessert in a glass screams 5oz only, but I would safely pursue that second slice of cake.
TIAMTSTBTTTI is on the lighter side of the Burial stout scene, coming in only at 15%. This beer is with toasted Macadamia nuts, black winter truffles, Madagascar vanilla bean, honey, and sea salt. I have no idea what a black winter truffle is, but I’m assuming that it was what gave the earthy flavor in this masterpiece of complexity. Combine that with the sweetness of honey, the richness of nuts, and the subtle complexity of vanilla and sea salt; it's like savoring a gourmet chocolate pot de crème and a fine Tawny...
Read moreMy husband (77 yrs old) and I (66 yo) had some of Burial's coconut porter at as a guest beer at a brewery in Hayesville, NC. We decided we really liked it and would make a trip to Ashville just to visit the brewery. We arrived on this past Sunday and were very disappointed with our reception. We asked about the Coconut porter and were told it was only in cans - no problem we intended to buy a 4 pack and drink some anyway. My husband asked if he could have a taste of one of the ales and the bartender immediately said "no taste allowed". /very curt, This was kind of a suprise - then she said this was policy. My husband was put off and angry so we went to the store to get the cans of porter and the girl there was also very rude and she said "it was the policy in Ashville". We bought 2 cans and sat down out back to drink them. A couple who were behind us in the initial line came over and invited us to sit with them at their table - very friendly. They mentioned they thought the whole thing was wierd as the bartender "gave a taster to the guy behind us" and they had heard the whole exchange. We then walked around the corner to Greenman Brewery where we were met by a friendly bartender who pleasently gave us a taste of their blonde stout - which was delicious by the way! We then had a very enjoyabe time there. ...
Read moreOut of the two in the Asheville area, this location has the most to offer on tap as well as the merch store. There's tons of beer. Something for everyone and they have some incredible ones in the mix. They also have some pretty good food. I visited this location more than I'd care to admit while I was visiting a family member in North Carolina. With that being said the experience at Forestry is better. The downfall of this location is the attitudes of some of the people pouring. And this is judging on a bunch of visits. The two women were the most friendly and helpful. The guy with long straight red hair and short goatee should not be working in the customer service industry. I visited mainly in the early afternoon as this place can get quite busy and I'm sure quite frustrating at times (I've worked in the industry myself). However this particular gentleman could care less about doing anything but the absolute bare minimum and with a smug attitude and is really a major liability to a place that brews great beer. It really changed my experience in that taproom because he's there a lot in the afternoon. My rating is easily one star less because of this. The Forestry Taproom was great and I'll eventually get to reviewing that space. This location is cool but customer service goes a long way and it's lacking in...
