City of Atchison — Local services in Atchison

My review is based on the trash department. It does not include the water department who have been absolutely helpful since we moved to the city from the county in June 2016. Justin Harmon, Kenisa- they are all wonderful. It’s the trash department that is overpaid for doing absolutely nothing. Their only job is to pick up the trash and yet that seems too difficult for whomever does that job. The truck is fully automated and we have to pay for special trash cans to have our trash picked up in the first place. So in addition to ridiculously high water bills, we pay for the trash truck that eliminated several jobs (but provides insufficient service). Last week was the kicker. The trash truck hit our can (keep in mind I have had the can pushed further back before and the driver couldn’t reach it without getting his lazy butt out of the truck- meaning our trash wasn’t picked up because it was an inch too far for him) and then knocked trash all over our back yard and alley. Instead of picking our can up that he hit and knocked over and collecting the trash he spilled all over our yard, he literally left garbage everywhere (which he drove the truck over. Good thing there wasn’t any broken glass since he never exited the truck to check). I pay so much money for a service the lazy employees aren’t even providing. I now have so much trash because this fool can’t do his job correctly or get out of the truck to complete. And then if you request special pickup for the garbage they missed, the city sends you a snarky email reminding you they don’t take regular trash with the special pickup. Well they don’t take regular trash on trash day either, clearly. I HATE the laziness displayed by the workers whose only job is to pick up the trash. The “it’s not my job” mentality needs to stop. My opinion of Atchison, KS is they are probably the most poorly run city I've ever encountered. Pass the buck and do nothing city that I still have to filter my water bc even that's dirty! No cooperation out of the city offices, no customer service rep, or so I was told, people who are so poorly trained that they Cannot answer questions or help. This is one city I'll tell people to avoid. And you wonder why your kids are not staying after they graduate. Well look in the mirror, Atchison! Your plans for this city Doesn't apply to anyone but the upper class folks and guess what they are your minority. You ought to try catering to your majority as That's where your money comes from mostly. I am moving clear out of this town after 16 yrs of residency as you don't care about your people At all! And I'm through playing your games as you cost too much with your inadequate w.ay billing and everything else in this city. It's a shame as it is a pretty city, it's just Doesn't care...

you get absolutely 0 starts from the whole city!!!! $75.00 reconnect fee for your water to be turned back on THIS is rediculous. I can understand 25.00 to go turn a little knob but $75.00 that is way to harsh!!!!!!! I wish I could vote everybody out of the city hall because I am tired of the Atchison citizens paying your bonuses and parties and everything else!!!!!!!!
