I am currently attending the Beginners Course at Mysore Yoga Atlanta - it is a birthday present to myself :) I have practiced various forms of yoga for over 20 years and am YTT 200-hour certified, but was still intimidated by Ashtanga yoga. It seemed too rigorous for me - too fast, too difficult, too long, too advanced... - of course I was judging it from an online class I took once (literally one time), which I had to stop halfway through because I couldn't keep up. Flash forward several years, I saw the beginners course advertised and for some reason felt drawn to it. I do believe we are drawn to certain things for a reason, so I signed up to see what it was all about. It is nothing like I expected! You learn the breath work and poses in the course sessions each week, and then you practice it during the week. Go to the practice sessions included in the course! The instructors are there to make gentle adjustments, reminders and suggestions. The Mysore style class is unguided. It is a set sequence, however you practice at your own pace (not too fast) with a focus on correct breath, breath-to-movement and alignment. Sava does such a fantastic job teaching, breaking it down in bite-size pieces (not too difficult), only adding more when you are ready (not too long). You only go as far or as deep as you can continue your breathing for the full hold time of the pose (not too advanced). With regular practice, your form improves and you can flow through the sequence a little easier, going deeper or adding more challenging poses along the way. At Mysore Yoga Atlanta, they accept you and meet you where you are, without judgment or expectation. It has been a great experience, I have learned a lot and I am so glad I enrolled in this course. I definitely recommend giving it a try! Your mind, body and spirit...
Read moreI taught myself some yoga for several years before I happened to see Mysore_Yoga_Atlanta add for beginner’s class in March 2023, which I signed up immediately. I was so excited about this because I had been looking for a certified authentic Ashtanga yoga teacher after reading Yoga Mala by Sri K Pattabhi Jois , the book tells us to practice under certified Ashtanga instructors. I was amazed by the welcoming and beautiful atmosphere of Mysore_Yoga_Atlanta, and this was the very first time I stepped into a yoga studio! But what impressed me most is the teacher, Mr Sava, he is so professional, so serious, so passionate and yet so friendly and humorous in his teaching. I found out that I couldn’t even breathe correctly despite of those few years’ self-teaching! So I started all over again from the very basics: breathing! After I finished the second beginner class, I felt I was alive: I can breathe! During the past almost one year, I have been practicing about 3 times a week under Mr Sava’s instructions, I keep making mistakes, but above all I keep making progress. No mistake is too small to avoid Mr Sava’s professional sharp eyes. No shortcut, but all strict practices pay off. I never thought I could accomplish up to three quarters of primary series in merely a year. Mr Sava instructs and inspires me to do what I used to think “mission impossible “. Mr Sava is magic, he knows every student’s uniqueness and has his magical methods to instruct each of us students to the asanas. I become a stronger, more confident and happier person ever since I practiced at Mysore _Yoga_Atlanta, there’s no word to express my deep gratitude for Mr Sava, who keeps inspiring me in this life-changing and life-long journey. I am so blessed and honored to be his student. God bless him forever....
Read moreFrom my very first yoga class at Mysore Yoga Atlanta, the instructors were so warm and welcoming they made me feel like family. Currently, I am taking the Yoga Therapy 1 classes; and, I absolutely love them. The instructors always offer modifications on the poses so that I can practice yoga in a safe manner. In each class, breathing techniques are highlighted which is major; I love having assistance in matching my breathing to the yoga vinyasas. Sava, one of the instructors, often begins the class with a mini tutorial on a certain pose or transition to help us out during class. Plus, Sava explains the deeper mind, body, soul connections of yoga during class.
Even the studio itself is quite charming. With Tibetan Singing Bowls and Hindu Statues lining the front and back walls, and comfy Indian furniture in the reception area, it feels like a slice of Mysore, India has been transported to Sandy Springs. Fresh cut roses always grace the reception area and powder room. And, the studio itself is impeccably clean, with a fresh lavender scent. Even the outside of the studio has beautiful rose bushes lining the front.
Along with terrific yoga training, Mysore Yoga Atlanta has something for all your senses. It is visually beautiful with lovely decor. It smells divine from the fresh cut roses. And, sometimes during Savasana, the final resting pose, Sava will treat us to the sweet sounds of the Tibetan Singing Bowls. All in all, I highly recommend Mysore Yoga Atlanta; it is literally a slice of...
