So, my personality is I tend to be too compassionate, empathetic, and, understanding. It's possible my rating should be lower and my words should be sharper. The employees are great! Really. I've worked with the owner for about 8 years. He's always seemed very nice and very helpful. And I'm sure he's all of that. However, as humans we tend to make bad decisions no matter the reason. Perhaps he was unaware. But, this store supplied the paints for the studio I work at. Various colors would have a pungent smell or would be extremely congealed. Initially, I was flummoxed. But eventually, it was revealed that the paint was simply expired. I brought one instance to his attention before I learned what was happening and he made it right. But as I was getting so many bottles of old paint and knowing there was knowledge the paints were expired, I struggled with revealing this because most men do not respond well and we couldn't afford to have a distributor block us out. So we used the paint in it's unglorious state. Fast forward. They no longer sell thier brand. So I figured let me send pics of 3 jars. However, this was not all of the jars I have still that are bad. I last made an order last May. At that time I showed him the expired date on the sticker. He appeared surprised. I was baffled. What owner is unaquainted with thier product label? But he said if it's a problem, he would make it right. Well, he didn't make it right. He sighted that because it was a year later that his hands were tied. But this is the thing...good paint does not expire in one year, nor two years, nor 3 years. I'll stop there. It's clear to me that 'Someone' intentionally package paint that was far beyond a certain date and distributed it for sale. I just can't say unequivocally who that someone was. But I do know it was happening and I was floored that the owner refused to make it right. He deals in paint. Therefore he knows and understands the nature and characteristics of paint. He knows the shelf life and various other aspects of the paint. I just wanted to share that factoid. Because my Mama used to always say, if a person lies than they will steal. The moral of that old adage is there's no loyalty to others. So who knows what's being done that's not in the best interest of...
Read moreThis place sits in a busy location that is tucked behind and on the side of its shopping plaza. The parking is great once you become custom to the area, unlike other art supply shops within the inner city of Atlanta.
My review is based on my style of art which demands journaling, penmanship, ease of use and comfort. I am constantly in odd positions to sketch a concept regardless of where I am, only later to have it scanned to work on digitally.
The store lacks a variety of brand journals that have a range of usages for structure like drafting and sketch notes. They do have their own brand which I've tried, but the paperweight is too heavy which minimizes the amount of sheets I can use within one book.
The organization of its pens, markers, and stationary tools are about what you may expect from an art supply store, but you can tell that their focus is on painters. So that one section on the wall which may be short of an aisle is what you get. So unique bags, pen holders and other mobile stationary that one may need you might not find it here.
Now they are knowledgeable to help you work with the supplies that they already have, but most of the items are essential for painters. Which again you can tell that painters and larger printmakers are their focus.
I will say I would still shop here before I would go to a Staples or Office Depot, because their brand in mechanical pencils, and drafting pens. However I would have to go somewhere else for totes, bags...
Read moreThey officially have a loyal customer! I’m a local visual artist and recently took on a commission of 8 very large pieces. I called numerous places in Atlanta for custom canvases, most couldn’t do the size canvases I needed and the few that could, didn’t have a way to get it out of their showroom. Brian was straight forward with me and got it done! Not only did he put together 8 very large canvases for me in an extremely quick turn around time, when I picked them up today, he was helpful helping me load them in the uhaul I rented to transport them. The owner came out and introduced himself. The communication through the whole process was remarkable and the quality of work was amazing. The best customer service I have ever received dealing with anything...
