I don’t know how else to start this review besides saying Moontower made my senior year at UT a living hell. I signed my lease at Moontower in September of my junior year. When I toured the model unit with one to the buildings student leasing agent, I was very clear about wanting the bedroom with a window and a private bathroom. I even physically pointed out which room I wanted. The agent reassured me that I’d get that exact room, and before signing, I even called the front desk to double check. They confirmed the lease was for the room I had requested (even though, strangely, the leases don’t actually specify which room you get — it just says “private”). Based on their repeated reassurance, I signed. Come move-in day in August, I was given a completely different room — no window and a shared bathroom. When I brought this up to the manager, Joseph, he told me there was nothing they could do. When I expressed confusion about how the rooms are classified — especially since there’s nothing on the lease or online that explains what “private” even means — Joseph told me that “private” actually meant a room with no window and a shared bathroom, as if I was just supposed to know that. Only after a long conversation with him and my parents present did he offer free parking and a $25 monthly rent reduction… for a mistake that never should’ve happened in the first place. Unfortunately, that was just the beginning. One morning, my roommates and I woke up to find our massive floor-to-ceiling window had shattered overnight. We were all asleep, none of us heard anything, and we immediately called the emergency maintenance line out of fear that something was structurally wrong with the building. Management — especially Joseph — brushed off our safety concerns and instead spent months accusing us (on different occasions) of breaking the window. He even suggested we “just confess” so the situation could be resolved faster. The window broke in October. It wasn’t replaced until JULY — and only after I contacted the city code inspector and the building received a violation . For nearly a year, instead of fixing it, they slapped up a flimsy piece of plywood held in place with two nails and electrical tape, while the window continued to crack more and more. We received no communication about when it would be fixed, whether it was being investigated, or whether we’d be charged. Now they’ve decided to bill each of us over $4,000 for damage we didn’t cause — with zero evidence and no explanation. And to top it off, when I came back to move out — after being away from the apartment for just over a month — I was welcomed with mold in my room and in our kitchen. This has easily been the most frustrating, disappointing, and honestly gross experience I’ve had in West Campus. Moontower management ignores serious concerns, fails to communicate, and takes advantage of the fact that students don’t always have the time or resources to push back. If you’re considering living here — don’t. They’ll gaslight you, blame you for issues that aren’t your fault, and expect you to stay quiet about it.

This apartment is truly disgusting and if I could go back and never rent here I would. I surprise myself every time I think about the living conditions moontower made its residents go through. My unit had mold. Lots of it. And moontower’s response was to give us a tiny dehumidifier that was 10% effective and served mostly to increase our electricity charge. When the mold didn’t budge, we complained again and had an “industrial” dehumidifier installed. This seemed to work temporarily. 2 months after getting this machine installed the mold came back. And once again the only response we got from moontower was another tiny dehumidifier. So at this point we had 3 additional electricity hungry machines: 2 of which we had to dump out the accumulated water every hour or so and one so loud that it would shake the adjacent walls. We were living with this mold for the rest of the school year and nothing else was done to help get rid of the safety hazard. It doesn’t seem fair to me that we had to get rid of personal belongings to ensure the mold didn’t spread further. Mold aside there were several other things wrong with the unit. Our front door lock would run out of battery every 2 weeks. At one point maintenance simply didn’t replace the battery, and our front door lock could be opened by anyone who lived at moontower. The thermostat is broken and we aren’t able to make any changes to the temperature in the unit. Maintenance was requested several times and not once did they show up. I won’t fully blame them since they were probably tending to the other 100’s of requests because this building never runs out of problems. Edit: I added a couple pictures of our pantry’s current state. This is not ok.

BEWARE! DO NOT SIGN HERE! If I could give ZERO stars I would! I am truly displeased and upset with Moontower! No matter what, they lie and find ways to keep your deposit!! I left that apartment better than how they gave it to my daughter and they are charging my daughter for caulking on the walls that was there before she moved in! DO NOT SIGN HERE! You will be so disappointed! Their elevator and amenities are never open, don’t work or are always broken! Vomit by elevator door was there over 3 months, never cleaned up until I called to complain! Trash room and hallways are gross! Carpets are sticky, mucky and totally disgusting! Elevators are always malfunctioning!! They are filthy! I doubt anyone ever cleans the elevators or the hallways! What’s worse is they have ZERO Customer Service skills. Move-in is a nightmare! Paid $500 in parking for one month even though they told me we could pay for just one month of parking! I personally spoke to a lady in charge, then she asked me to email her the exact dates I needed for my daughter to park for one month, I’ve attached pic of email. After saying she would only be charged $230, my daughter has now been charged an additional $230 for parking, even though she won’t need the parking, the man manager is backing himself by saying “your daughter signed”! $500 to park there for one month!! They will screw your kids over!

I’ve had a pretty negative experience at Moontower thus far. Management is pretty rude and I’ve caught them in a few mistakes before. Double check every charge they assign to you. They’ve apologized to me before over miscalculating. When I first signed a lease I wanted to park my car at Moontower, but they have a very small garage so I asked to get put on the waitlist and her response was fairly rude and hinted that I probably had no chance. Instead of handling that professionally she said “what’s your first name” and no additional info. There could be 100s of residents with my same name. Lol. Never heard back on that by the way. Our AC in our unit also went out and it took about two weeks to fully get to working again. It was 80 degrees inside for a while, not to mention leakage. There’s was really no social distancing done until enough people complained about it. One Friday night there was a frat party going on in our literal gym. There were people hanging out on the workout machines drinking. At least 100 people not masked. Security guard did nothing, and the number of people in the gym at a time during the day is never monitored. Lots of gym equipment is broken and hasn’t been fixed. Weird for a new complex. Not sure what I’m paying such high rent for. In addition to this a few girls came around knocking on everyone door sharing a story about how a homeless man got into their apartment unit in the middle of the night and fell asleep on their couch. Management didn’t want to advice anyone of this and kept it hidden from residents. The study lounge doors remain unlocked so basically anyone can get into the second floor/ study lounge area. While the loud construction noises may not be their fault I wouldn’t advice living here unless you want to sleep with earplugs. A loud truck wakes my entire floor and surrounding floors up around 4:30 am and 8 am every morning. Sometimes they even come at 2 am. Last for about 30 minutes. They sent out a message about advising residents about this noise for two weeks but it’s been going on since I moved in early August and it’s almost...

I wanted to warm the new residents that the management is scam, they care less about the customers. here is my experience

I'm a parent of an college student who recently tried to rent an apartment housing at Moon tower.

Back in May, we agreed to rent the apartment at moon tower in Austin for the upcoming semester. We wanted a room with windows. My daughter always has particular anxiety staying in room with no windows.

At the beginning of the July, we got the room assignment. My daughter discovered that the room she was assigned to has no window. She reached out to the property trying to resolve the issue. it has been more than 4 weeks now, the property refused to do anything about - the rate for rooms without windows are lower than rooms with a window. below is the response we got from them. the exchange is a long pursuit.

“ the issue is with the previous leasing manager who already left,. we can’t do anything about it”

“ you must show us something written down” but the previous leasing manager said she would write it down

“ We will look into it… and will call you back …. “ x days later, no call back. so we followed up…

“ We are still looking into it…. will call you back…” x days later… no call back whatsoever.

“ sorry. there is nothing we can do. You always have the option to break the lease and pay half of the contract ( ~$7000$)” . seriously?

Eventually we decided to call the Corporate for help

left two voice emails to the regional property manager but got no response....

Eventually talked to customer services. the person said he would reach out to the property and call me back. Two week later, there has been no response whatsoever after I left follow up voicemails.

I sent an email to their management team via the contact they posted on their website. this was last week. You can probably guess . yes. no response whatsoever.

the company website days “You speak, We listen”. but it is a complete joke. the company committed nothing but lies and treating...
