My boyfriend bought me a promise ring for our anniversary at this Kay's in the Bangor Mall and I needed it sized. We're both 18 and I thought a promise ring was a really big deal. I loved it; it was so pretty and I was so excited for it to be ready to pick up. Gave them my size and waited, picked it up a few weeks later and it was gorgeous. Barely 90 days later where they had saudered it to size had broken off. The ring was most definitely not cheap for an 18 year old student on a college budget to be buying for his girlfriend either. I stopped in and told the guy who was helping me when it had been bought and how it had broken already. He told me since we did not purchase the $85 1 year protection plan that the repairs would be about $30 because they only covered their work without a plan purchased for 60 days. I told him I wanted my ring fixed so that was okay. He forced me to pay upfront (which I later found out was wrong) and then asked my size and filled out the yellow receipts and I was on my way. My mom has bought majority of her jewlery at Kay's for years and this did not sound right to her. She called and Jason the manager told her whoever had charged me was wrong because they cover their work for 6 months without said purchased plan, and was told to come back the next day to speak to Jason and get my money back for their error. I figured I'd go the next day just so they didn't forget about the $30 they owed me come time my ring was ready. Returned the next day (drove 45 minutes to Bangor) waited 20-25 minutes to be helped, and was told they had no money in drawer and to just do it when I picked my ring up. (What store has absolutely no money in their drawer during business hours???) My mom happened to be in Bangor when my ring was ready, picked it up, and got my money back for me (finally). I got the ring when she got home and they had sized it wrong. It was probably around a size 6 when I got it back even though I specifically stated the size of the ring ( a size 9) when I dropped it off. This Kay's is hands down the worst Kay's I have ever been to and my mother who has dealt through Kay's her entire adult life agrees. Awful customer service and poor work was completed all around in my...
Read moreBad customer service. Poor quality jewelry.
I would highly recommend anyone looking for quality jewelry in the Bangor area avoid this store. Go somewhere with better service and products. We bought my husband’s wedding band at DAY’S on Stillwater and we honestly couldn’t have been happier with the value and quality of the jewelry.
I never leave bad reviews, however, I have had two bad experiences at this store with different sales people each time.
For the first instance, I went into Kay’s get my engagement ring resized and the sales person gave me a hard time because I was not the one who purchased the ring. Then he proceeded to tell me how much the ring cost and list out the other jewelry/prices purchased by my husband. Another salesperson there seemed to realize how poorly the interaction was going and took over for the man.
With that same ring, one of the side diamonds fell out after only 1.5 years of wear. My husband had purchased a lifetime warranty on the ring, so we went in to get the diamond replaced. When we went in, we were made to wait for 20 minutes even though there were 3 staff members there and only one other customer there. When we were finally helped, the salesperson seemed annoyed that we were asking for the ring to be repaired. She told us that in order for the warranty to be valid, we needed to come in every six months to have the ring inspected. Even though no one had ever told us we needed to come in every six months—she charged us as if we didn’t have the warranty/insurance that my husband purchased.
The only reason I even got the ring repaired here is because of the warranty and that it was originally purchased at Kay’s. It should be telling enough that the only way they respect the purchased warrantee on their jewelry is if you come in every six months, for life, to get it inspected…any store that believes in the quality of their product wouldn’t have such a...
Read moreI'm giving this place a 2 & it's only because of how great Susan is. You see, my Mother brought her diamond ring in there a cpl months ago for routine maintenance/cleaning. They have insurance on it so they go in every so often for upkeep. Susan wasn't there that day, there was another woman..and we're 99% sure she stole the diamond.
Kay's has done nothing in handling my Moms concerns! Basically blowing her off. She got so sick with anxiety over it she gave up.
Thankfully the woman no longer works there & now works in New Hampshire but this is unacceptable! They gave her a different diamond since this woman "lost" my Moms..but it's the point that the original diamond was special to my Mother.
The different stories this woman gave my mom & then my dad..it's clear she was trying to cover her tracks.
Kays...do better in handling your customers complaints when their diamond goes missing. The only reason my parents still go to you is for the routine maintenance. But my parents won't be buying anymore jewelry from you due to the way you handled this, neither will I. We've also warned my 1200 friends on Facebook, and have asked family/friends to share in hopes this doesn't...
