We have an elderly dog who gets growths on his skin. Most of them are not a problem. Sometimes they are. They can grow big and then bleed and weep. We have had quite a few removed over the years. Last year he needed to be seen. I called and was told there were no appointments for over a month. When I started to explain, I was quickly told if "you don't want to wait, you can take him to another vet". I called and talked to the practice manager. She apologized and got him in. 2 1/2 weeks ago he had another growth that was bleeding, I called and he was seen. I was given antibiotics and told that the Dr. was scheduling surgeries in December. I was told that if the antibiotics did not work to call and they would get him in right away because they would not want him to be bleeding that long. Well, the antibiotics did not solve the problem, still bleeding. I called to have the Dr. remove it, as instructed. The woman who called me back said he was scheduled for surgery December 9th (1 1/2 months away) When I started to tell her what I was told, she said "if you want to take him somewhere else, just call and cancel the appointment". I said, no, you are not hearing me, I was told that he would be seen sooner because he is bleeding. She just repeated the "you are welcome to take him somewhere else, because of covid we are very busy" Even though it was before covid I was given the same advise in an emergency. Finally, I will take the advise and take my...
Read moreWhile camping in Acadia NP last week, my elderly dog (who doesn’t see very well) bumped into a picnic table with his eye. He seemed to be in pain, so, after reading the reviews, we called Acadia VH. They got us in the same day for an appointment. Dr. Fine and his staff were great; knowledgeable, professional, courteous, and so caring. After looking through Kodi Bear’s medical records, Dr. Fine knew that he was almost 16 years old, and had had some major health issues in the last couple of years. He examined Kodi’s eye, found no scratches, and prescribed medicine to help Ease inflammation and discomfort. Kodi felt much better the next day and is now back to his ol’ self! Dr. Fine was especially intuitive in compassionately sharing vital tips regarding traveling/camping with elderly pets. This really helped put my mind at ease about continuing to camp with 2 elderly dogs. I highly recommend Acadia Veterinary Hospital to anyone who is looking for high quality, compassionate care for their pets. AVH...
Read moreAcadia Veterinary Hospital was acquired by VetCor on December 27, 2018. While we have received decent care and have met with very caring staff for the 15 years we have been using Acadia Vets, before and after the acquisition, the current management and some office help lack compassion, ethics and professionalism. Clearly the current manager lacks customer service experience and an understanding of policy in a service industry. While inconvenient and difficult it is understandable, with a labor shortage, that hours are cut back to three days a week. The poor treatment by staff, a lack of responsiveness from management and withholding of a prescription for our cats food is completely unethical and unprincipled. Acadia Vet is no longer the small hometown vet it once was. I hope for the sake of our community and for the staff that does have the care of our pets in the forefront that the difficulties caused by uncaring and ill-equipped management...
