Maples Inn is a lovely house under new ownership this year. I stayed in the Sea Rose room which was as described. The bathroom for this room was across the hall as expected. There was no exterior lock and I felt a bit strange leaving my things in there with no way to lock it. The shower was tiny but manageable.
Housekeeping was not daily "due to Covid" though everyone dined in the breakfast room together. I'm high risk so I dined on the porch. Even though I came down first since I was eager to get to Acadia NP, being on the porch meant I was served last. Breakfast was at 8:30 and generally wasn't finished until 9:30. It wasn't exactly as described on the website (eggs as you wish and breakfast meats were not offered) but I personally liked some of the healthier options the innkeeper offered like avocado toast and she was kind enough to accommodate my gluten free diet. But breakfast at the Inn was a little too late for visitors to Acadia as the parking lots were full by 8:00 or 8:30. One morning I requested a grab and go bagel and was able to get to the park earlier. I would have loved to been offered that option up front as my first day in Acadia I arrived too late to find parking without a lot of effort.
The Innkeeper communicates that she is available until 5PM but will respond to emergencies after that. Perfectly reasonable on the surface. Of course I never returned to the Inn until after 5PM. I requested a TV one night right after I got back at 6PM and didn't hear back that evening (fine, it's not an emergency) or the next day. The next afternoon I asked again and one was delivered to me.
It was a good stay, but I think some of the practices could use...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed at the maples inn for two nights to explore Bar Harbor and Acadia. The Maples has a prime location, you can easily walk to any attraction Bar Harbor has to offer. The owner was very sweet and welcoming, allowing us to check in a couple of hours early on short notice (though not guaranteed). Our room was charming and a solid size while still feeling cozy. The owner provided a good spread of 24/7 coffee and snacks which are great for hiking! Our main point of criticism would be the breakfast, which is a large and important part of any AirBnB. The menu changes each night, offering you 3 selections, two that changed daily and then a 3rd yogurt option that was available both nights. The downside is that you cannot modify any selection, or request other options, and breakfast was held for only one hour in the dining room. You don’t really have a way of finding out if you will enjoy the options until you arrive, so if you are looking for a hearty egg breakfast with all the fixings, this may not be the best option for you. At most other BnBs that we’ve stayed at, breakfast usually included an egg/meat/potato option in addition to any specialty items, and requests were always taken into consideration. Naturally our stay was pricy, which we understand due to the Maples fantastic proximity to downtown, and it being the busy season, however included in that price we feel that breakfast could’ve been a bit more personalized...
Read moreMy partner and I stayed here when we attended a friend’s wedding in late August. The place is charming, quaint and inviting. There’s so much character and thought placed into designing every nook and cranny of this Inn. The front desk lady was very friendly and accommodating. Our room was quite small - barely fitting a queen size bed in the room, leaving minimal walking space. Our bathroom was also very small. It had a toilet, a small sink, and a very narrow shower.
We didn’t mind the size of the room because we spent most of our time hiking around Acadia. The staff at Maples Inn was very kind and shared some of their favorite hikes and their tips and tricks into finding the best experiences. The lobby also has a few snacks that are perfect grab and go for the trails. Their breakfast is also tasty, delicious and cooked on order!
One thing to note is that they have 2 small, gravel parking spots on either side of the inn. They will also provide a parking permit for your car that will cover street parking during the dates of your stay at the inn. During peak season, I can only imagine how hard it must be to find parking...
