I arrived at the Dillard's department store at the Mall of Louisiana at 12pm on Sunday, September 4, 2022. I was looking for business attire to attend an upcoming law school convention in Malibu, California. I am not originally from Baton Rouge, so I am unfamiliar with the lay of Dillard's Department store. So, I was definitely walking laps around the whole department to get a feel for everything that was offered, before I closed on my final decisions. I was followed around the entire department store downstairs and upstairs by a lady named Ms. Kathy that works in the handbag department of Dillard's. Ms. Kathy is a dark-skinned black older lady with shoulder length choppy black and grey hair. I was at Dilliard's until 4:17pm, Ms. Kathy followed me the entire 4 hours I was there. I started to notice a pattern of employees being very aggressive with me, asking me "what am I looking for?" multiple times with an unreasonable amount of time in between times I was repeatedly asked. I was approached by Ms. Kathy again at about 3:00pm and she actually brought the security police to intimidate me, as if I was doing something wrong, by looking around for what I wanted to buy!! I looked at her in her eyes and asked her "do you think I am stealing?" Ms. Kathy replied "no" and smiled and laughed at me. Ms. Kathy could at least apologized. Another employee came and asked me what I was looking for again and I asked her bluntly, do you employees think I am stealing? The Dillard's employee informed me, yes the whole department thought I was! I had on really short, shorts and a tank top that revealed my back, I was carrying no purse. I had nowhere to hide any stolen goods! The Dilliard's employee also told me that Ms. Kathy said the only reason I bought something was because Ms. Kathy said something to me!! I am so upset and disappointed. I spent a smooth $1K and did not deserve the treatment I was given. I went to customer service in Dilliard's to leave a complaint and I had to tell the lady that took my complaint to get a pen and piece of paper to make sure she got the details of my story correct! I told her I wanted to be taken seriously, then she tore off a half of piece of paper and wrote on it. The lady at the customer service desk in Dillard's that took my complaint, did not take me seriously. I still have not received a follow up call like she told me I would, as it has been 2 days now. The lady I gave my complaint to at customer service in Dillard's, when she first greeted me, she stated "I know who you are." Which I thought was totally odd because I did not know her. So, she basically was indirectly telling me, she knew who I was because she had been watching me the whole 4 hours I'd been there and thought I were stealing too. It is so sad that customers that come to spend their hard-earned money are harassed and stalked the entire time. I was also told that I could not take merchandise upstairs on the escalator, but I saw other white customers taking merchandise up the escalator and they were not stopped. There are some racially profiling employees working in Dillard's at Mall Of Louisiana, BEWARE!!! I was most definitely racially profiled.
Update: It is September 23 at 12:24 CST and NOBODY from Dillard's has reached out to me as of yet.
But they come and make some generic comment just 2 hours ago on my comment!!!
Dillard's: I sent an email 2 weeks ago! AND I left a complaint with customer service who wrote down the details of what happened to me on a napkin 2 weeks ago!!
Dillard's you disgust me!! I hope the Dillard's department does not make any money and because of so have...
Read moreShopped for over an hour in the ladies designer formal departments. There was a salesperson in every designer department. I was never approached by even one salesperson, nor was I asked at any point if I would like help. Clearly, these ladies do not realize the only reason they have a job at all is because of every customer that enters their department. Dillards you need a clean sweep on your employees in designer formal wear. They spent too much time talking to one another to notice the customer.
Side note: I am white and every salesperson was black…maybe that’s how it is now…. Another person left a review saying she felt profiled because she was black..I felt I was purposely not waited on by them because I am white. 🚨🚨Perhaps we ALL should stop shopping at Dillards…we aren’t the problem but clearly the employees are.
Additionally we went to the men’s Dillards and we were again not waited on in the men’s department of the dress shirts again the sales person was black and we were never acknowledged. A gentleman from the suit department perhaps from India came over and helped us pick out some white formal dress shirts and we walked over to the suit department to try those on. He was very helpful and courteous, we did purchase a shirt. Also, in addition to the man that waited on us, there was a white gentleman working in the suit department and I told him what happened to me at the ladies Dillards and he said he would be reporting that to the manager. Ridiculous that they had to walk over from the suit department to wait on us in the dress shirts, it was not even in their department.
🚨🚨WHAT THE HELL DILLARDS MANAGER DO YOU HAVE GOING ON WITH YOUR EMPLOYEES…NOT HOLDING MY BREATH FOR A RESPONSE AS YOU ARE PROBABLY TAKING THIS AS I AM BEING RACIALLY MOTIVATED….WRONG!!!! SIMPLY EXPLAINING IN DETAILS YOUR LOUSY EMPLOYEES BEHAVIOR! YOUR LADIES FORMAL WEAR DEPARTMENT LOST A BIG SALE. WHEN WE STOP COMING, YOU TOO NO LONGER...
Read moreThe personnel at the Baton Rouge Dillard's store humiliated and offended my mother and I this evening. My mother and I had finished shopping on the first floor and decided to proceed to the second floor to see if they had any blazers. When we arrived on the second floor, the first lady who assisted us was kind enough to show us where we could find them. So we tried on some blazers, skirts, and trousers but they didn't fit, so we put them back on the rack and decided to go because it was time to leave and the store was closing. As we approached the escalator, a security guard stopped me and my mother to inspect Dillard's shopping bags I was carrying. He said, "Or the ladies who just attended to you say you're carrying items you didn't pay for !” I couldn't believe what he was saying to me. I asked him, "What do you mean we just spent $700 on a purse and a few other things?" He apologized, saying, "Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to offend you." But the harm had already been done, and I was furious. I simply couldn't return the bag because it was so gorgeous, but I will never return to the Dillards in Baton Rouge because some employees' have horrible judgmental...
