Just had the worst expirience of our lives at Academy tonight. As many of you may know (and I know some don’t) my brother in law is an autistic adult. He is verbal but like every special needs person we have to be patient with him. As we were making our way out to the exit out of Academy, the security guard happen to lock her eyes on my brother in law (mind you we are just walking towards the exit empty handed because we didn’t find what we were looking for) she kept starring him down and as he made his way around one of the middle sections she came up to him and said are you okay? Why are you walking like that like you’re hurting? He didn’t respond because obviously he 1 doesn’t feel comfortable 2 he may or may not always understand what is being said to him and 3 the way she was walking up towards him made him feel scared (these were his own words). I quickly approached and answered her with “his back is hurting so he’s not feeling well” to which she made a smart remark of “oh okay yeah his back hurts”. We as a family of an autistic adult did not like the way she approached him. He has an “I am an autistic adult & I am or may not respond to you” bracelet which we have gotten him to help show other around him and bring them awareness of his disability because unfortunately for us now he no longer wants nor feels safe to go back to Academy because of the way the security guard made him feel uncomfortable and like she was thinking he was stealing (again these are his own words). So thank you very much Miss Security guard for giving our family a place that we used to love shopping at and turning it into an awful experience for our most loved...
Read moreI recently visited Academy to purchase some work boots and other items. I found some great deals online, so I placed my order for pickup. When I arrived at the pickup desk, the staff member assisting me was polite and friendly. However, she needed to consult her supervisor because my order hadn’t been picked yet.
Unfortunately, the supervisor’s demeanor was less than welcoming. While I approached the situation with respect and courtesy, she responded with an attitude that was quite off-putting. Thankfully, the order picker, who was friendly and efficient, quickly resolved the issue for me.
However, I felt uncomfortable when the supervisor began rummaging through my purchased items, as if she suspected something was amiss. While I understand the need for security, it’s important for staff to handle such situations with a more considerate approach. I believe the management should provide additional training to ensure that all employees foster a positive customer experience. Overall, while I appreciated the resolution, I hope in the future that the supervisor with the oversized glasses have better interactions that can reflect a more...
Read moreUpdate in November 2024. I'm revising my review to three stars, after a visit to see their duck and turkey and especially, their buck rutting callers. I purchased the Original "The Can" Estrus Bleat for $10.99. And least not forget their new handguns for sale. My sister favored only our experience at Collector's Firearms, after Blake here was a very attentive associate at the gun counter, going through each manufacturer, beginning with the limited Derringers available for her to see. In June 2024, they were offering only a limited military discount until July 4th. Not any annual military discounts. 2023 -After three attempts to find a wall scanner that was working and would give me a price of 3.99 for a pack of jelli snug plugs, (unpriced reusable corded earplugs, on the empty rack), I found a nicer female employee walking aroynd who had a computer with her. Also, on that day, in 2023, Kyndal at the customer counter made sure she was loud enough and more to call me over to ring it up. When she asked if I wanted a bag, she showed her rudeness skills' level by not listening and quickly replied with...
