Update: Cabela's store manager reached out to me to make things right. Kudos! Everyone makes mistakes but those who own to them and aim to fix them are those businesses that will always have customers.
So here is the whole story. Yesterday I called Cabela's store in Berlin, Massachusetts and asked about a utility trailer. The person who answered Terry Downing said let me check I'll put you on hold. Then came back and said there is 5x10 utility trailer in stock for $987 and 6x10 for $1,447. I repeated 5x10 for $987 in stock and he said yes. It was my anniversary and my wife wants trailer so we can go kayaking for the weekend. I went to the store which took me 1.5hrs got there and was told by someone else that 5x10 is not in stock there is wait time 13weeks and the price is not $987. I asked to talk to manager since I drove 1.5hrs on your employee word this was becoming frustrating. Manager Jeff Zubak shows up and tells me same story, not available. I asked him to talk to Terry. He said he will and left behind the wall, then came back and said he texted Terry and that's it. He will talk to Terry tomorrow morning. I was like wait you want me to drive home 1.5hrs and then make another 3hrs trip tomorrow??? He said ok we have 6x10 in stock which is 40% more expensive and I'll give you $100 discount. I said if you give me for $1200 we have a deal, I don't want to drive home without a trailer. He said NO. I then left the store and called your customer service, the woman said ok it's our fault we'll give you additional discount let me talk to Jeff. I hand him the phone and he told her NO I am closing the store! I was shocked that manager can act like that. He didn't care about Cabela's or customers just wanted to leave. Gave me the phone and that was it from him. Plainly refused the sale. I continued talking to customer rep who was as shocked as me at his behavior. She said she will follow up and we hung up. Today, I didn't get call from the store so I called to see what js going on. Terry answered and said he doesn't remember what he told me. But they have 6x10 for $1,447. I asked did he even talk to Jeff. His answer Jeff doesn't work today!!! I was shocked again, asked to speak to his supervisor. She than answers the phone and tells me they can't even sell me trailer without appointment! I was completely confused at that point. She manages people who never told me that. You have a place where apparently manager Jeff Zubak doesn't care about anything and is so brazen that he will even kick off your own customer service rep and refuse sale. The salesman is doing bait and switch to get me to store where there is no trailer he told me about. On top of that they didn't even know about appointment to actually buy trailer! It looks like someone is running that store like corner mom and pop store not multi billion dollars company. I was disappointed and disgusted at the end. I still don't have the trailer and nobody cares at that store. At the end I only wanted to buy a trailer for the price I was told, even agreed to pay more for a bigger one and ended...
Read moreMy local Cabela's in Berlin, Massachusetts is now stocking a variety of used MilSup as well as other used guns. I went into the store today to purchase a Brno Mod 2 in 22 LR for $379. I looked thru the rack and found a gun with nice medal and wood. The bore looked good too. I proceeded to buy the gun. I have a Mass LTC and have never had any difficulty making a purchase. Unfortunately, Cabela's has a new policy passed down (supposedly from the Bass Pro management) - the trigger locks don't come off until after the purchase (which is "as is") and you have left the store. I asked to at least feel the trigger - no go. Then I was asked to sign a document agreeing that the sales team had demonstrated and explained safe operation. They had not yet shown me- so, I asked to be shown how the safety and bolt release and safety work. I believe that this is required by state law and is also store policy as they were asking me to sign that they had shown me. The hitch is that you can't demo those without taking the trigger lock off and they had been told they would lose their job if they did so. So we were in a deadlock and I left without the gun. IT APPEARS THAT CABELA'S CANNOT/WILL NOT SELL A GUN WITHOUT REMOVING THE TRIGGER LOCK AND REQUIRES THAT YOU SIGN A DOCUMENT ATTESTING THAT THEY HAVE DEMONSTRATING THE SAFETY FEATURES WHEN THEY HAVE NOT. They have the gun and my phone number. I can go back if they call. Otherwise , no reason to go. There were other guns I liked and I plan to buy a boat in Spring 2019 - but it will have to come from...
Read moreLet me tell you something! If your a home depot lover like me, this is the store for you. This temple of essential outdoors gear surpasses THE home depot in every way, someone had to say it! The second I walked in, I felt at home. My buddies would love this store! While my buddy Benson Miller is a loyal bass pro shops supporter, I felt the same about home depot, and this store changed my whole mentality! The expansive store drew me straight to the fishing isle, those are some nice rods! I was able to test one in the MASSIVE fish tank they had. The size of some of those fish rivaled Great Aunt Berthas catch during the tri-annual ice fishing tournament hosted in Yellow Knife, Canada. The store was so big I had to take a rest in the front, where the massive chairs in front of the fire took me back to my childhood days, although this time there was no yellin from the old man as he downed his 12th beer of the night! The wife says thats where I get it from, I told her to finish up the pot roast and let me watch the cornhole tournament on ESPN 2. Tony Smith sure tosses those bags with some conviction and purpose! Just like me during Cousin Tracys summer '96 barbeque. I still think about that brisket to this day! The wife as been trying for years to replicate it to no avail. Great store, although they should put a sign on the front that says: Beware Liberals, Real Men...
