We pulled off of I-40 to rest and get some information on things to see and do on our visit to the Smoky Mountains. The Black Mountain Visitors Center was a great stop, clean restrooms, information pamphlets and booklets and informative helpful suggestions from the staff. They encouraged us to check out the shops in Black Mountain. I was pleasantly surprised at the number of stores and the variety offered. We saw beautiful pottery in multiple styles and colors. We bought a turquoise vase and a unique fruit rinsing bowl. We also found a bookstore with a coffee shop, and a pet store called Bone-A-Fied Pet Boutique (Love My Chihuahua!). There was also a beautiful park with a flowing fountain and all...

Black Mountain was lovely and the half a dozen shopkeepers we met and patronized were wonderful. Our impression of the town was soured by the incredibly rude and dismissive woman who was staffing the visitors center about 1215pm on 3/19/23. We had questions about the status of the Blue Ridge Pkway and getting to Mount Mitchell, since the park website says the Parkway is closed and she spoke to us as though we were idiots, including telling us “there’s this thing called moisture” which freezes when it gets cold. Perhaps if working with folks who aren’t familiar with the area is trying and unpleasant for her, working in a visitors center is not the best...

The welcoming host was top notch he gave us recommendations on where to eat with directions and times. He told us where the entertainment was the best. He also told us where the history is in town. This gentleman was perfect for this job he answered every question we asked him about Black...
