Ballad of the Bird Dog is a Brenham staple for me each time I visit. Whether you’re there for the mescalito coffee, yums for your tums, a new custom hat, fun knickknacks or just want to browse some cool things, you can’t miss this place. This location has allowed it to flourish into everything it currently is. Could it offer even MORE items than it does currently? Sure. But then you’d miss out on the rotation of local & eclectic artesian goods and make an easy and spacious shopping experience feel overfilled and soulless. Ballad is a vibe unto itself and more about having a touchstone in slowing down and connecting with the new energy in town than it is a simple gift or clothing shop downtown. If you want bulk souvenirs go to Buccee’s. If you want a taste of new Brenham’s soul and heart, head to Ballad.

Trigger was a Craigslist post, his owners stated he was just annoying. I drove from Florida to Tennessee over night to find the most beautiful German Short haired Pointer living outside in a shed and fed a sand bucket of food once a week. The only toys he knew of was chewing on rocks. Trigger came back home with me to Florida and was immediately the most grateful and loving dog I have ever owned. He now enjoys morning cuddles on the couch, tennis balls, family boat rides and lizard hunting.

From the outside, i thought this was just a coffee shop so I ventured in for a coffee before I hit the road back to Houston. Walked in and was greeted by 2 friendly dogs. 5 stars right there. Then noticed that the trendy clothing and accessories for both men and women, not to mention the home goods and leather wares. All in all a really cool contemporary shop with coffee and a lounge in the back. Will def be back on my next visit to Brenham to do some shopping.

During my early teen years and into later teen years my grandfather had a lease SW of Uvalde. We would quail hunt, blues and bob-whites, turkey, and deer. Our camp was located on the old deserted town of Blewett. Still marked on older Texas maps. I remember the first couple of years hunting with Cindy, Jany, Ufinie. All English Setters. We had open country and real rugged and easy on the dogs conditions. Jany, Cindy, Ufinie oldest to youngest. Jany being the old veteran knew what was going on. Cindy was great dog and Ufinie just learning. Jany was not to be denied and we would lug her in and out to get some action in. He stiff legs and body moving and hunting still burned in my mind as well as many memories spent with my grandfather and his years long friend Bobby Jack. Jany passed the summer after the second year there but she will forever live in my heart and mind. Cindy was stolen from us a few years after we lost lease. I am not sure of what happened with Ufinie. These are some of my most cherished memories hunting with these dogs over quail using our Remington 1100’s and reloaded shells by me. Still...

I absolutely love supporting small businesses. I am so happy I came upon this place when searching for some Red Wing boots on the internet. The name of the business was eye catching, and once I read their story I felt compelled to purchase through them instead of one of the larger retailers. Since, I received email communications from them that have a warm and personal feel to them, and hours after placing my order I received a shipment notification. Thank you so much for such a pleasant experience! The next time I visit TX I HAVE TO visit your shop :)

I’ve purchased several pairs of boots, since that first review, 2 years ago. Boots always arrive quickly and are neatly packaged. I will continue supporting this family...
