I went on a Thursday morning, so maybe they didn't expect to need some extra staff? There were two ladies kept very busy with all the customers. They did an awesome job for what they were working with, which I think is a very messy order and check out system. You order right at one of the doors at the same spot where the barista is commonly very busy making coffees. You don't pay till after you eat, and must come up yourself without a ticket, again to the bar but at a different spot to pay where you finally see your total.
The atmosphere was nice and working towards an attempt at country adorable, but just seemed cluttered with things haphazardly placed. There was a nice amount of space between tables, and everything was clean. The place has a lot of promising atmosphere which after a year+ open they don't seem to have worked to really grow into.
The food was bland. I ordered basic breakfasts, a bacon quiche and the basic French toast. The quiche was well cooked, but had nearly no flavor or cheese or bacon, and most of what I tasted was the near burnt crust. The French toast was bland also with no flavor, but it was perfectly cooked. The small hockey puck sausage was nearly exactly that.
I loved the presentation of the food, and the servings were perfect sized. Both entrees came with a small side of yogurt and fruit, which I also enjoyed. The only downside to the presentation were the cute little plates and perfectly dusted French toast with a side of syrup... in to go cups with lids.
I'm not a coffee drinker, but I will say their barista seemed quite competent. I ordered tea instead, which comes in a double sized mug. This was disappointing to me; it was both heavy and awkward to hold. I inquired about ordering a pot of tea instead of a heavy mug, but it seems they're not interested in that aspect of tea at all even though they have tea pots scattered around as decor...
Their messy tea set-up is akin to their messy order check-out system. They have an extravagant selection of teas to choose from to order hot in a heavy mug or purchase some looseleaf to take home. To purchase the tea I was told to bring the large jar from the shelf to the counter where they would bag some up for me. Now, the tea shelf is in a semi separate country store area, which looks like it may be staffed separately on busier days, but today was only the two ladies, so i felt bad for the long amount of time the barista was handling things alone while my loose tea order was prepared by the other lady.
The entire experience started with a lot of optimistic hope, but ended in awkwardness. This may be due to the messiness of their given system, the understaffed aspect, or just a bad choice of time to go. I feel that a bit more investment into their haphazard aesthetic would push them to truly shine, and look forward to seeing where they are as a restaurant when I come back in the future.
I also have great hopes for the teas I purchased as the Solstice blend I had in store was lovely. I just wish it had been an easier atmosphere to...
Read moreThis came highly recommended but after arriving we were somewhat disappointed. First salvo, we had to order our breakfast at the bar area. A line formed quickly so I jumped in. I waited a little bit as the person finally took my order. Coffee was only available behind the bar so after taking my order she proceeded to make our coffee. The line grew longer and people were lined up between tables. We sat in another room. She asked me where we were seated and I told her "in the next room in the corner by the window." No number was given to me for us to put on our table. People bringing out food had to ask who ordered certain meals, not really knowing who it belonged to. Very unorganized. The meals, were very basic though on the menu sounded exotic. I ordered a French Toast with the Memphis option which was 2 toasted bread with cut banana and peanut butter in the middle. Man, I could make this at home! Nothing exotic about this. It came with a sausage patty the size of a 50¢ piece of coin. No lie. Also a yogurt cup, very small. See the pics. Anyway, good luck if you want to try this place. It's a nice spot...
Read morePerson at the counter was really sweet, first cup of coffee was cold but that's okay because they immediately made a new pot.... I ordered the grilled cheese with tomato basil soup the soup was basically just partially blended tomato with cream in it.... I heard the microwave go off about five times, assumed it was going to be my soup which is mostly fine...... If it were actually hot, the cup itself was very hot. That being said.... It was maybe 2 oz of soup, if that. The grilled cheese was barely even toasted and there was probably four times more cheese than there was bread..... It was almost like he was rushing but it also took much longer than a cup of soup and a sandwich should have taken..... Tea selections are amazing, again the person behind the counter was super sweet and the coffee was good. Thankfully she refunded the 14.00 for the 2 oz of soup and barely toasted grilled cheese.... Btw the underside was completely White and this was the heel of the bread 😢... I wish I would have put my hand up next to this cup, because it is most definitely a sauce ramekin,...
