The calzone I had did not taste that good, which is probably due in part because I did not find their marinara sauce to be that impressive and because it fell apart. When my order was being delivered to me, I received two small sauce dishes that each contained about six tablespoons of marinara sauce (or about 1/3 full). I had not yet tasted the marinara sauce and immediately asked for more sauce because I knew it was not going to be enough to cover the calzone. I was told there would be an additional charge for the sauce. I did not follow through with that order because it was not worth it to me to go through another credit card transaction, which I discuss below. After tasting the marinara sauce, I was glad I had not purchased more. I mentioned above that the calzone fell apart too easily. This is probably because the ingredients were not evenly distributed to the ends of the dough. There were at least 6 to 7 inches of solid dough at the points (i.e., at the two ends) of the calzone. Also, I found my meal to be overpriced for what you get. I paid $17.86 for one calzone (and two partly filled saucers of marinara sauce) and tap water; this includes tax but no tip. A staff member of the restaurant said that the calzone is the equivalent of an entire pizza. I disagree. At most, the calzone is comparable of 2.5 to 3 average slices of pizza.
As I reflect further, I conclude that my whole dining experience on the afternoon of 9/8/2018 was a disappointment and I normally give good reviews. Upon entering the restaurant for the first time, nobody was there to greet me, and I saw no restaurant staff in the dining room. There were a few customers having lunch. I proceeded to a table and sat down. Then I noticed a black lady walk into the dining area from the back of the restaurant. She gave me a blank stare, so I went up to her and asked if she worked there because I wanted some service. She directed me to the bar to order, but nobody was at the bar. No sooner than those words rolled off her lips, a slim white lady walked behind the bar to the cash register. I asked the lady behind the bar which calzones were popular at the restaurant. She did not want to say, and I found her response to that question to be unwelcoming. I mean her response and body language may not have risen to the level of sarcasm, but it was obvious my question bothered her. I didn't think my question was that unusual, so I rephrased it. She responded that they could make calzones out of any pizza. After a little more prodding, she reluctantly helped me decide on the meat lovers calzone. She then swiped my credit card without telling me the cost and then handed me the credit card device to enter in the tip and confirm the total. I normally do not tip before a meal or before I get served, and I do not tip in situations where I have to serve myself like at this restaurant where I have to go up to the counter to place my order. I also did not like being handed the credit card contraption which required me to push buttons to complete the transaction. All I want to do is sign my name and nothing more. Anyway, I must have pressed the wrong button on the credit card contraception and canceled it by mistake. It was not clear to me at that moment which button corresponded to the option I was trying to select. The lady behind the counter reran the transaction and attempted to hand me the device again, but this time I insisted that she operate her...
Read moreSuper disappointed tonight after driving back to Brenham (from Round Top) specifically to have ice cream at Yumm.
This evening, Saturday 3/25/23 at 8:20PM we arrived and found that the store (both the Sweets side and the Eats side) was closed at 8:20pm. This was 40 minutes earlier than the posted closing time. I called the store from the parking lot and we could see the young lady answer the phone. We asked if there was a special reason the store would be closed early and she said sometime like ‘because we closed early’. She proceeded to quickly exit the store and walk into a back area while on the phone. I told her I did not understand and asked if a manager was available and she responded ‘yes, this is me’. I again asked if the regular closing time was 9 PM as advertised. She put another lady on the phone, who I assume was the manager. I repeated the scenario to her and explain how we had driven in to have dessert at the store, and asked if the posted closing time was incorrect, and/or how we would know in the future if the store was going to be randomly closed early, so we could avoid this in the future. She asked if we were at the entrance for the “sweets” store or for the “eats” store. I told her that we went to both doors (that are approximately 50 feet apart from each other), and they’re both closed. The open signs are turned off and we could not enter. She said that that was not acceptable, and the store should be open until 8:45 & that she would speak to the team about it. I did not ask for or receive an explanation for why the door would be closed at 8:45 if they’re closing time was 9 PM.
We went elsewhere, and likely will not be returning due to the lack of professionalism or courtesy.
My friends and I have girl trips to the Round Top / Brenham area approx four times a year for antique shopping and we love staying in Brenham.
The shoppers and tourists that come to visit Brenham twice a year for antique week & Marburger bring a lot of tourism dollars to Brenham. I am sure the financials for Yumm reflect increased sales during these times, so the store ownership might want to consider hiring people that actually keep the doors open during posted...
Read moreMy wife and I were waiting for a Christmas parade in Brenham to begin, so we stopped here at Yums to grab a bite to eat. My wife ordered some fries, and was told by the employee who took our order it would be about 5 to 10 minutes. After waiting for about 30 minutes, we asked an employee if we could get a refund because the parade had started and our order had not arrived. The employee referred me to Carlos (one of the managers).
When I asked Carlos for a refund, he acted very put out, then turned to two employees (who were all working behind a counter) and started making wise cracks about me wanting a refund. Carlos then said he would get with me in about 5 or 6 minutes, but did absolutely nothing.
After about 10 minutes went by and it appeared obvious that Carlos had no intention to assist us, I asked another employee if we could a get refund because we were missing the parade. Carlos then stormed over toward us, tried to buck up to me, and yelled “I told you I would refund you in about 5 or 6 minutes.” As Carlos continued with his temper tantrum, I told him his behavior certainly warrants a negative online review, and he responded in a sarcastic tone saying “that breaks my heart,” and then said if you want food in 5 or 10 minutes (as the order taker initially told us) we should go to McDonalds.
Carlos’ outbursts got the attention of many customers who appeared to be in disbelief that a manager was this unprofessional. Even employees looked stunned by how Carlos was acting. Another customer joined in and told Carlos she had been waiting 55 minutes for a pizza, but Carlos ignored her.
Also Carlos was dressed very inappropriate to be serving food; he was wearing a shirt that revealed part of his back and under his arms (on a cold winter evening). I am not sure if this is a sanitation issue.
Not sure who does the hiring, but it is hard to believe anyone could let this slip through the cracks. Carlos was such an embarrassment I actually felt sorry for him. But it wasn’t all bad; after the parade we stopped by a similar place a block away called Must be Heaven, and enjoyed some excellent food and a shake, and the staff...
