It was the only restaurant being open on a Sunday. And because of that, the prices were a little but too high for what they offered. My mom's meet was not cooked enough and she couldn't eat it. Of course not: how would someone think that deep-fry would work best on a 1-inch thick piece of pork, covered in that crust?! If you wait for the meat to cook, the crust would burn. If you prepare the crust to look great, the meat is not properly cooked! I see the receipe is wrong and the cook too, to begin with. Plus, every where I go and ask for extra lemon, I get at least 1 full lemon cut in slices in a small bowl. This time I received just 3 slices, like that lemon was the most expensive part of my order. Too cheap on quality, too expensive for that quality. Too expensive in any way you put it. I would recommend getting some sandwiches from home if you plan to visit the town. Many restaurants were closed on Sundays so there are not many choices if you stop by and are hungry. It's cheaper to stop to a gas station and get some leftover tacos. Sorry for my review, but I did not mention that my dad got a stomach bug after he ate his plate at the same restaurant; he messed up his stomach there. We were running through town to find a restroom, an open one. The teller was nice though, trying to gain more tip, I guess. My plate was pretty OK, a pulled pork sandwich, but as big as I had in many other places where I had to "fight" it to get it done! 😆 Here, it wasn't the case, I finished it in a...
Read moreTLDR - Service is alright. Atmosphere is nice. Food is definitely sub par.
Service was good but everything else was highly lacking.
Food - My wife ordered the Shrimp and pasta Alfredo, all the shrimp had tails with shells on them. She had to pick through her pasta and cut the tails off the shrimp. The shrimp was also very fishy. She also said the pasta tasted like TV dinner pasta. She mentioned that zatarain's frozen TV dinner pasta could be considered better.
My children order the kids steak for $11. They received a 2oz peice of steak. My youngest order Mac and cheese as a side which turned out to be over cooked craft Mac and cheese and they charged a $2 upcharge for it which we were not told about beforehand.
I ordered what was supposed to be a 14oz New York strip. What I got was definitely not 14oz and while it had decent flavor, it was not worth anywhere near the $36 they charged. The state came with two sides, I ordered asparagus and onion rings. I got four onion rings and two asparagus. The onion rings were bland without much flavor. And the asparagus were half soft and half crunchy.
We also ended up ordering some drinks.
My wife enjoyed her margarita. The first beer I ordered was a Shiner Bock which was sour and definitely did not taste like a Shiner. I ordered two Crawford bocks after that which tasted fine.
Ultimately our bill was $115. For the quality of food I would have expected a bill closer to about $60.
We probably will not return...
Read moreTo start with, I've had better food and service from this restaurant before, so this may be a one-off experience. My main problem is that they were so concerned with closing that the whole experience left us feeling like we were in the way. We walked in around 8:20pm on a Friday night. We asked to sit in the restaurant/back portion where it would be quieter, but they said that room was closed. Not a huge deal. But while we were eating, they were pulling everything off empty tables, spaying a ton of bleach, wheeling a full size garbage can by our table, cleaning floors etc. Still, not worth spending the time on a bad review, but my burger was really not good. It was super dry and had very little flavor. I honestly enjoyed my last burger from Sonic more. I'm guessing the kitchen was also more concerned with closing than turning out good food maybe. I'm giving 3 stars for food because my wife liked her meal.
It seems like this hurry to close may be a Brenham thing because we originally drove into town to go to the Brenham Grill and they were closed (and fairly full of people) at 8:15pm, again...on a Friday night.
I love our little downtown and it's restaurants. I hope that this was just...
