L.L.Bean — Local services in Bridgewater Township

We are absolutely thrilled to have an L.L. Bean store open up in Somerset County, NJ, conveniently located right off of Rt. 22 West, near Chimney Rock Rd. Today was our first visit to this beautiful new store. The staff were all super nice, helpful, courteous, friendly and highly attentive, especially AJ, who is one of their Managers... And if she isn't, she should be! She enthusiastically encouraged me to open up an L.L. Bean MasterCard, and ultimately, save upwards of 25% on my first order. At first, I was a bit skeptical, because I have less than perfect credit, but I got approved, and we did get a somewhat sizable discount on our first purchase, thanks to AJ! And this particular store really is clean, fresh, fully stocked, and very well-designed. We've been long time customers, and it's so nice to welcome this great company to our area! We came to L.L. Bean as a family to shop for school backpacks for our children. During our visit, a salesman approached us. While we initially appreciated the offer of help, the interaction quickly became uncomfortable. After we moved to another section of the store, the sales associate said, “You were here just for backpacks,” when I responded uncomfortably with “shopping continues” he followed by saying “No, I’m serious.” The comment came across as accusatory and inappropriate — as if we were doing something wrong by continuing to shop beyond the backpack section. This made our family feel watched, unwelcome, and unfairly judged in what should have been a simple back-to-school shopping trip. It's unacceptable for any customer — especially one shopping with children — to be made to feel that way. The manager was notified of this event. I love LLbean and have been wearing and using their products my whole life. This was my first time at an LLbean store and it was really underwhelming. I needed to get a nice jacket and gear for a backpacking / camp trip and they seemed to have a very little selection. The racks are loaded with 50 of the same jackets and clothes with one to two colors to choose from. They didn’t have anything I was looking for (in store) and I ended up ordering the type of jacket I was looking for through a helpful associate, which defeated the whole purpose of coming to the store. Also when I asked the person working the shoe section “what is a hiking shoe you would recommend?” he was very nice but had no real knowledge about the shoes or how they perform, telling me he had only been on one hike...
