The Published Page Bookshop, a book lover's dream.
What a heavenly and priceless treasure. The minute you step inside The Published Page Bookshop and the aroma of books envelopes you, you know you’ve arrived at an incredibly special place. It is as if you’re stepping into a secret world, one long-lost and forgotten that does not exist any longer. Books spill from the aisles and the store overflows with literature. It’s just bursting with treasures, everything all bookshops should be, and one that rarely exists anymore. The Published Page Bookshop is not some tidy “chain” only carrying what is “popular” and “sells.” They have so many wonderful books, one can spend days combing through all the piles and shelves.
I was in town for business and stumbled upon The Published Page Bookshop in historic downtown Cleburne. I didn’t even know it existed and I am so grateful I discovered it. I lost myself in it for as much as time allowed and left with an armful of books. The Published Page has so many lost and forgotten books. It truly is a gold mine for any reader. They carry titles no longer in print and other books that are difficult to find, along with antique books. You truly do not know what you might discover. As I wandered through the aisles, I found so many wonderful treasures hiding in there. They have such a vast number of unique books—more than I have ever seen. It’s incredibly rare to find a place like this one.
The gentleman behind the counter was an absolute pure delight and one of the nicest people you will EVER meet. His engaging conversation was a gift within itself and makes you want to come back just to converse with him! He’s simply a pleasure.
I live a couple of hours away and I cannot wait to go back. I’m driving back to Cleburne just to visit The Published Page Bookshop. I must lose myself again in that spectacular heaven. I highly recommend...
Read moreI drop in every 4 to 6 months, hoping they will get the mess taken care of. Yeah, there’s books, and occasionally I’ll see a few I feel I should add to my library and buy them … but a large segment of the store is a mess of boxes of books and stacks of books and pieces of shelving units in something that looks like what you’d see pictures of in the aftermath of a hurricane or earthquake. So there’s a huge part of their inventory that isn’t even possible to look at, and for the first year I thought that was understandable and they’d get it together soon, but they haven’t, and it’s just sad.
I love old books, I was so happy when this store opened and was looking forward to shopping locally instead of driving to burleson and ft worth to browse used books, but gee whizz, what a mess! Even though it’s a whole trip or maybe a side stop on another trip I shop at half price books in burleson far more frequently than here just because at least it’s reasonably organized there.
It wouldn’t be so bad if the proprietors were working on it, but in my semi-annual visits they are usually either sitting on their phone or sitting reading a book. At least hire some high school kids to do the muscle work of getting through the mess if you can’t manage it! Id even be willing to trade a block of several hours a week to put towards getting the catastrophe cleaned up in exchange for books!
It’s just sad to see such a great old building and such a huge collection of books in such a state. I hope it gets better. If I see significant improvement I will...
Read moreNestled in the square of downtown Cleburne, The Published Page is in a century old building across from the courthouse. Despite stacks of books, my friend was able to use her walker with ease. I drive from the Mid-Cities to Cleburne solely to visit The Published Page. I've brought friends, but usually it's a special treat for my husband and I. It is very much the wonderfully vast forest of books that old book shops had back in the day. You can get lost in there and that is a plus. Though, if you do manage that - just holler for Bill. There are more books in here than any library I've visited in the state of Texas. Ancient books to new releases. Geological surveys to underground local authors. Remember the Time Life book collection of The Old West? It's here. The Child Craft books from the 60's-70's? Found it. The sci-fi Analog magazines? Yup. Ancient cookbooks? A whole section dedicated. Bring some friends, family or even a date and get ready to spend some time. I was very happy they take PayPal here. I found some books for a friend in Dallas and she sent me the money to get them for her. I was able to use PayPal to just pay directly. Oh, yes: also records, CDs, 8-track tapes, and VHS are available. Many are...
