This is such a unique building. Built by Mr. A.J. Wright, one of the foremost of early Cleburne merchants, it was an outstanding department store during my childhood. Ms. Wright was a very frugal person, so the store wasn't always well lit. Most of the lights were turned off until customers entered. My grandmother, whose business was nearby, would order my clothing from Ms. Wright for the holiday or season upcoming. Then my outfit would be put on the mannequin in the display window facing the sidewalk. That way, if someone ask to purchase it, the sales ladies didn't have to disassemble the window display. Several years ago, Mr. Robert Pedigo purchased the property and created the many cute shop fronts on the lower floor. Currently there are many fun and unique boutiques that occupy these spaces. In the center of the first floor, there is a cafe, the Loaf'n Dog, a popular local favorite that has relocated there business to this historic building.
