A good story. Whether youâve ever lived in or visited the UK or not, you need to make a visit to The British Pantry and Tea Room. I am half British and spent many years visiting my motherâs family when I was young and then was fortunate to live there with my family for three years in the mid-80s. Some of my fondest memories of all those years were born in little high street (Main Street) tea rooms across England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. They were all different, but had a few things in common, they were in little village shops, mostly in the back of the shop, because the front of the shop housed a small store with food stuffs and other items. The food was always home made, little egg salad, chicken salad, or cucumber sandwiches, sausage rolls, and lovely miniature cakes and of course scones. The pots of tea were strong, steeped for the perfect amount of time, served with milk or cream and sugar, and lemon if you so desired. If you were really lucky, all the cups and saucers were different and made from vintage bone china and so beautiful.
If youâre wondering why Iâm reminiscing so much in a review it is because when I am having tea at the British Pantry and Tea Room I am taken right back to the UK and my times spent in those tea rooms. It is exactly as a tea room is meant to be. If you want to have a real British tea experience this is the place to do it, not fancy food, not a hundred choices of tea, but just wonderful, fresh sandwiches, scones, sausage rolls and cakes, and a pot of good British tea, just like in the UK. Itâs perfect!
The shop itself has lots of great UK food items and souvenirs. I promise youâll leave The British Pantry and Tea Room with lots of good memories...
Read moreAs a Brit, I am continuously on a mission to find British Products. Unfortunately I find that providers tend to sell products that are out of date and spoiled. Itâs very disappointing because I want Americans to taste the best of British but they inevitably take home something lesser. Here we have the same problem. Out of date or close to sell by items that no one should have to experience. Chocolate that has a white film or stale potato chips. Why would you disrespect the culture youâre trying to profit off is beyond my comprehension. I would always suggest reading every expiration date and if there is non shown, donât buy.
Responding to owners reply: I have in fact spoken to one of your cashiers regarding out of date products and was informed the owner doesnât appreciate criticism (your response well noted) she mentioned a Taser... You say you âconstantly monitorâ yet on my last visit there were at least 5 different brands of chocolate bars that had a month till expiration along with 2 brands of crisps, and the pack of Viscount biscuits I bought, that didnât have a date, were covered in a white film. I live far enough to not find it convenient to return products that should have never been on a shelf. We hear a lot about supporting our local businesses in this pandemic, yet little thought is given to the customer. Your customers are struggling too. When we who donât have a lot of money, buy items that are expensive we do so as a treat. We should expect a fair trader. How fair is it that my purchases are trash? Your Tea Shop might be a lovely experience for little girls but your products purchased by hard working adults need more...
Read moreI visit the tea shop nearly every weekend and have been coming on and off for nearly 3 years now. I love the atmosphere, its so cozy and sweet, great for all ages and parties big and small. The couple who run the shop are always so kind and welcoming, going out of their way to remember their customers and make them feel comfortable. I've taken several guests with me over the years to the shop, both men and women, ones who enjoy tea and those who hate it, and every person I've taken has walked away having had a wonderful time and asking me to take them back in the future. I've never experienced a more interesting, fun, and enjoyable weekly habit in my life, and plan to continue returning as long as I'm able. The tea shop is open Friday through Sunday, but has a shop in the front that is open all week long. I often purchase some of the goodies they serve in the tea shop for my siblings who live far away and send them these treats, which they are always ecstatic to get. The tea shop has a lovely feeling to it, from the cozy beautifully set tables to the hats which are essential for every tea experience. I recommend this experience to anyone with an hour to spend with a friend and looking for an interesting time to remember. If you are looking for an authentic experience with delicious food and great people, please...
