Artisan De luxe — Local services in Columbus

We were in Columbus for the first time and stumbled into Artisan Deluxe while exploring the city. It is not an exaggeration to say that Kevin and his team were a highlight of our trip.

I came in looking for a very specific fit of jean I’d been having a hard time finding, and grabbed a few off the shelf to try. Kevin came over and said essentially “I see what you’re going for, and you can try those, but on your body you’re actually going to get that look with this other jean” and he was spot on. We spent the better part of 2 hours trying on everything, chatting, and generally having a wonderful time! Artisan deluxe feels like a blend of personal shopping and upscale boutique - the quality of his inventory is amazing, and the customer service is off the charts. My friend group has all different styles, and every single person found something they LOVED and that looked amazing on them.

Kevin also offered free tailoring for any of our items that weren’t fitted perfectly to start, and shipped (for free!) to us in Boston. There was a small flaw in my tailoring, so I emailed Kevin and within an hour (at 8pm! On a Friday!) he had already responded with how we can get the error fixed.

I’m surprised the reviews are so positive. My friends and I wandered in this weekend to take a look around. Wonderful brands, top notch denim, cool tees, luxury basics etc. but the aggressive sales tactics, attempts at jokes regarding what we were wearing and how much we purchased was incredibly insulting. Staff and owner essentially insisting we try on clothes in front of entire store and trying to convince us to buy. Like full court press attention on my friend. When stating I was going to buy a shirt, one sales person shouted “that’s it” and prior to that “i heard you had a mountain in there.” When I finished trying on… the owner asked if the pants I had exited dressing room were my own (they were) he said something about them being old navy jeans (they aren’t). There were also off handed comments about us shopping the sale rack. Like ohhhh you guys like sale stuff? There is also barely any size inclusivity.. like stopping at size L/ 32 for women. Was actually a pretty offensive shopping trip.. myself and two friends were quite disappointed and we all felt disrespected. I wish I hadn’t purchased...

This store focuses on men’s raw selvedge denim, they have other items, but that seemed to be their focus when I was there. It’s a niche market and I’m glad there’s a retailer in Columbus that offers selvedge denim at all.

The people I spoke to were knowledgeable about denim and immediately knew which jeans they had in stock that would fit me in the style I was looking for. If you’re looking for men’s raw selvedge denim and you live in or around Columbus I highly recommend going here and trying on the fit instead of ordering online.
