Petco — Local services in Contiguous United States

This store really needs to vet the cashiers they hire. I come into this store once in a blue moon when I visit my in laws in town. I let it slide with just a phone call to corporate last time, but this time I’m going to leave it for people to see. During my last visit, I overheard an employee (I think her name was Beth?) loudly referring to POC with blatant racial slurs. Fortunately that employee seems to no longer be with them. This time, I overheard a different cashier (Tammy? Tara?) refer to living in Vero Beach as a “prison sentence” and was asking people when “their sentence was up”. Now, I’m a native Floridian that left because I do not love it here, but there is a time and a place to complain. And there are certainly better ways to go about expressing your displeasure about where you live. On the clock, at work, in a customer service position is not the time nor place. I could tell other customers were also upset by the statements made by this grown woman. I also know from my wife’s parents that this isn’t nearly the first time this cashier has made customers uncomfortable. The only reason I’m not giving one star is because my in-laws bring their fur babies here for grooming and the girls in the salon are so wonderful with their rambunctious doodles (truly some doodle whisperers, all of them!). They always leave smelling and looking good, not to mention happy and loved! I can say at least those girls love their jobs and are meant to be there. I truly hope management takes a good look at things and makes this right. It’s a shame to see just a couple of employees ruin the reputation...

This Petco is a huge disappointment. The staff aren't knowledgeable in regards to their products. I asked for a comparison on two different products and the employee assigned to the section of the store didn't know anything about the products. The aquarium section of the store had dead fish stuck to the filters and the Betta bowls were dirty. Management was notified and upon walking up to the counter the manager didn't introduce himself as the manager so the customer just stood there until the manager said "why are you just standing their looking at me?" Their would have been no way to differentiate the manager from other staff members. I saw the manager move a Betta bowl around rapidly infront of a customer who wanted to purchase the fish. The customer was worried it was sick. After management shook the fish the manager just walked away with it without telling the customer anything. It was obvious the customer was confused. Management said they cannot sell sick or injured animals. Based off managements poor treatment of the animal I'll assume it will probably die in the back office. I find it unlikely that Petco spends money on giving their fish "medicine." Ya know..... regardless of what the customer wanted I really didn't like the way management treated the customer. Also the bathroom smelled really bad. The insulation was visible and wires were exposed. It looked like an unfinished construction project. I will never be shopping...

Crazy how I go in there and spend hundreds of dollars at a time and they have the audacity to charge 10 cents for a stupid bag to carry my stuff to my car and in my house with because they seem to think that I just have shopping carts laying around my house waiting to be used when I arrive.

It's even crazier how you get boxes of bags shipped in for near nothing with your inventory stock and then charge more than the bag is even worth to begin with.

You're not saving anything or doing anything productive except annoying people who are already being price gouged by everyone else, everywhere else. Last thing I gotta worry about is trying to get what my pet needs just to be told it's 10 cents per bag extra for the things I already do get.

Stupid changes and annoying policies like this are what's driving local businesses to be shut down or turn down in profits in favor of just using Amazon. It's pretty cool how I get free next day shipping, and I don't have to leave the house to get it. Just figured I'd support a local business but if they feel the need to nickel and dime you to death over something as stupid as a plastic bag after I've spent 150+, I'll just opt for Amazon and wait 1...
