Two months ago I went to Guiry's on Market Street to choose a new exterior color for my home. I picked up a selection of blue sample paints and ultimately selected the Benjamin Moore color "Old Navy". I tested the sample on the house, and it looked great! Since I would not be the one buying the paint, I gave the sample to the folks who would be taking care of my new siding. When I compared the two colors they were identical, and after the new siding was painted and installed, the house looked wonderful, just as I had imagined! My husband and I then decided that we should have a quart of paint around for us to take care of a few additional details, and for future touch-ups as needed. Since we had no way to contact the original paint wholesaler, we thought that it would be a safe bet to go to Guiry's and have them make a quart for us, since the color came from them in the first place. We couldn't have been more disappointed! When we got home the color was not at all what we had asked them to match. We thought it would be a simple task to return the paint and have them correct their error. We took in a piece of paper where we had painted the two very different colors side by side, and instead of admitting their mistake, they just insisted that the two colors were the same, which both my husband and I could see were definitely not. The staff was condescending and rude, and had the audacity to imply that I just "did not understand paint". This went on for around 45 minutes, during which one of their employees rudely marched up and exclaimed "I make $80 an hour to look at colors and those are the same", even though the paints, when scanned by their color analysis machine came up with two completely different values. Eventually we got a refund, and this morning we went to another paint supplier where we were able to get the correct color on the first try, without having to deal with a rude, condescending staff who cannot admit when they make a mistake. Guiry's will no longer be a choice for me when purchasing paint, since they don't even seem to be able to match the basic colors that they sell in their own...
Read moreFirst time going in to this store today. I gotta say though I have walked/rode by this store on a pretty regular basis (at least a couple times a week) and I had no idea that it was a full blown art and craft supply store until a friend told me when someone told him. I thought it was something similar to a Sherwin Williams but not at all. If your familiar with Meiningers this is similar in size and selection however this is much more spacious and easier to look and walk around. I would actually say they have more options and products to choose from and on top of that they seem to be at least a little cheaper on just about everything I looked at. The staff is also very friendly as surprisingly knowledgeable at least who I spoke with on me first visit. An example of pricing I can give are Montana brand spray paint cans that I like we're almost $2.00 cheaper per can, that's like 25-30% cheaper and that's normal price nothing on sale or special pricing! I have always liked Meiningers and still do, however I think my main art supply store is now Guiry's. Nothing bad to say about Meiningers it's just make sense to me to shop at a place that is a more comfortable store for me to be in, still a great staff and their even more knowledgeable (my experiences), as good if not better selection, they also have cheaper pricing for same products. It is a win-win for me all...
Read moreI was the only customer in the entire store today at Guiry's on 2245 Market St in Denver and the person behind the counter was very rude...so I went to Ace Hardware to purchase my 12 gal of paint. I am glad there is another choice to purchase Benjamin Moore paint. I like that paint, but I probably won't be purchasing anything from Guiry's going forward.
Jen,
I am glad that you took the time to look into this. The request was not an issue as I had a mask on. It was the greeting at the door that made all the difference. In a demanding way the person behind the counter said "Hey, you need to have your mask on at all times in this store or you have to leave." I was over 20 ft from the counter and had pulled my mask down so that I could be heard when making my request. Keep in mind that this was the greeting I received at the entry and it was very rude. My response to this as you can imagine was rude as well, the tone had already been set. I am in the construction business so I am picking up supplies at various vendors daily, I know when I am being treated poorly. Nobody said, welcome to Guiry's we request that you keep your mask up at all times when you enter the store. I did immediately leave and went to Ace Hardware, I was greeted at the door there quite differently.
Thanks for...
