After taking many months to reflect on the situation, I still sadly feel it is necessary to write this review for the sake of other customers. In short, they do not stand by their work, and are disconcertingly antagonistic towards their customers as soon as any sort of issue is raised.
I purchased a custom designed engaged ring for my now-wife here in late 2021. Although they did implement my design successfully, the product has been absolutely plagued with problems. Within days of receiving the ring, the large stone was already notably loose in a way anyone could feel by pressing on it. Within 18 months, one of the smallest diamonds had fallen out. When we brought it in, they recommended we pay $500 for a re-tipping.
There was heavy insinuation that we had not cared for the ring correctly, and that the damage was our fault. Importantly, my wife's actual wedding ring is made from the exact same materials by a different jeweler (and designed to match the style). She always wears the two rings together, and the wedding ring has never shown any problems. Confused, we reached out to other jewelers to inspect the engagement ring, and the general consensus was that this was MUCH too soon for a re-tipping (even assuming heavy wear and exposure to chemicals, which was not the case... my wife works at a computer and takes the rings off when doing just about anything).
When the second diamond fell out we brought the ring in again and attempted to discuss this issue with the staff. My concern was that a re-tipping would only be a band-aid, and we'd be re-tipping every 18 months. They mentioned re-casting the whole ring, but I told the staff member that I would be much more comfortable if they could provide some sort of assurance that the work would address the problem (which they refused to do). My wife and I left the shop that day disappointed... though it was basically what we had expected.
What we did not expect was to get an accusatory email from a manager some days later, saying that I had somehow intimidated or threatened the staff. Needless to say, I was absolutely mortified by this accusation. This was not at all how my wife or I remembered the conversation, and I was so shaken by their words that I asked them if they could please review the security footage and let me know specifically what I had said/done. Their actual emailed response was that “I do not need to review security camera footage.”
I respect the need to protect employees (and know how hard service jobs can be), but this was shocking to me. I had tried to open myself up to feedback on how I could communicate better, but instead they escalated the issue further by making it clear (in writing) that they would not even bother looking at the footage (with the actual emailed reason given literally being that they were sure that they were right).
Months later, I still try hard to forget this whole ordeal. I have stopped even purchasing little gifts for my wife from Sarah O, and am currently working with a different jeweler to have her engagement ring re-made in a way that will last. I gave them two stars because I do like how their...
Read moreI couldn’t believe how rude the staff was. My custom engagement ring lost diamonds the first week and I didn’t even wear it. The main sapphire was also loose from the start (something my friend that is a jeweler told me to get checked). I went in to just ask about it, and they told me it was my fault and I was being too hard on it. I hadn’t even worn it yet. A year later more diamonds fell out and I just wanted it fixed. I knew they were going to make me pay, but I just had some questions on how to better care for it. They were so rude I left in tears. I then got an email from their customer support manager saying that I was being rude? I told her to please check the camera as I would never be rude to retail worker. Not my style. She said she watched the video, didn’t see anything and proceeded to ask if I wanted to have them fix the ring for an enormous cost. I will never be back here. I just wish the staff could have communicated with me better and that I didn’t look at my engagement ring with regrets. I would go anywhere else for something more unique and made with better craftsmanship. My wedding ring is made from the same material with small diamonds from another jeweler and it’s laughable how much better the quality is. Oh well. If I were you I wouldn’t go here. My fiancé worked with Taylor to create my custom engagement ring, so when the time came to start looking at wedding bands, I knew exactly where to start. I loved one of Sarah O’s existing designs, but wanted to edit some elements to match some of the features of my engagement ring, so I reached out to Taylor. She helped me to understand every step in the process, responded quickly and answered every question and worked with me on several rounds until it was just perfect. Taylor was even able to use the 3D model from my engagement ring so that I could see exactly what the two would look like next to each other. Thanks to the thorough communication from Taylor and beautiful 3D renderings she created, I felt 110% confident that my custom ring would be everything I hoped for (which is saying something — it can be nerve wracking to invest in a custom ring you cannot see in person or try on!) So, no surprises that when the ring arrived, I was overjoyed because it was absolutely perfect. The hardest part of the entire process was simply being patient while the ring was being made!!
