I attended this church for about a year. I liked the music and sermons but this church is missing the mark on what it means to be a true Jesus follower. As a lot of other reviewers also stated, this church is very very cliquey and does not like newcomers which is very strange for "Jesus followers". After a whole year of attending this church, I knew no one here (and I am extroverted). This is a come on Sunday, sing, listen to a sermon, and leave kind of church.
They make it so incredibly hard to join a city group (small group)... you have to attend one of their classes that are rarely offered and then the girl who teaches it (a dark curly haired 20-something) stated, "Don't expect your city group members to be your friends or your social circle". I found that comment very strange and counter to Jesus' example of building community. I went to one city group meeting but it was really inauthentic and awkward so I never went back.
There are much better churches in Denver to attend. I'm sad churches like this exist because this may be the only church some people ever attend and it may turn them away from continuing to seek God. I do hope this one chooses to change their cliquey ways and actually practices what Jesus taught and lived...
Read moreI can see how other people would rate this as unfriendly and unwelcoming but at the same time I think about the fact that a lot of these people are millennials and probably socially retarded / inept at being social with people they don't know or whatever. It did feel cliquish when I attended a Sunday night service. The only people that spoke to me were church staff (2 ladies) and everyone else avoided eye contact, saying anything to me, or even acknowledging my presence for that matter. Unlike most churches there is not a meet and greet as service begins, and a lot of everything here feels extremely contemporary and hipster; but hey whatever gets butts in the seats and hearts on Jesus. They sang a lot of songs I've never even heard of which was interesting, and I was glad to be there and to hear the sermon. Overall if you're the kind of person that can overlook people ignoring you and continue forward I'm sure eventually they would accept you in some way, but I just don't feel as though it's a warm and welcoming...
Read moreWe absolutely love this church! I’m honestly surprised by the negative reviews mentioning cliques, because our experience was the complete opposite. We moved from a large church in Denver to The Summit specifically looking for genuine community, and from our very first service we felt welcomed. People came up to introduce themselves. The first two services we even had members of the church come up and ask us about getting coffee or breakfast afterwards. We quickly got plugged into a wonderful city group, and it was clear this wasn’t a “sit, worship, listen, and leave” kind of church. Summit is all about doing life together in community. Beyond that, Pastor Andy is deeply grounded in Scripture. His sermons aren’t about feelings or cultural trends; they’re about faithfully teaching the word of God. Although we recently moved to another state, we’re hopeful to find a church like Summit again. We can’t say enough good things about our time there! It truly shaped our lives and faith in such a...
