Congrats, your search for a fitness/mobility/strength coach is over.
I began working with the owner of TRAIN, Danica, one-on-one about 8 months ago. It was one of the luckiest discoveries I've ever made. I am so thankful I found her.
I suffered a weight training injury many years ago. Looking back, it was a matter of "when" not "if." After years of poor posture and improper movement patterns, my body was constantly teetering on a cliff. An injury was bound to happen.
Since then, I've seen many physical therapists and personal trainers. Until I found Danica, I was becoming concerned that I'd never find someone talented who I could really trust.
Even if you haven't suffered an acute injury in the gym, you're probably like how I was and how many of my peers currently are — constantly stiff, suffering from mild back pain, waking with weird aches, spending most of your time in poor posture.
Unfortunately, fitness in the information age is a total mess. Personalities on the internet run the gamut from well-meaning professionals to total charlatans. As an analytical engineer, I spent a lot of time wading through the minefields. While there is good stuff to be found, it's far too easy to fall victim to information overload or to misapply advice or to "switch gears" the moment you find something shinier. At the end of the day, there is no special stretch or set of movement patterns that will fix your immobility. There is no special elixir you can drink in the morning that will undo the sinfulness you commit during lunch. There is no special lift that will have you booking beach vacations just to spend as much time with your shirt off as possible.
Everyone needs a Danica. The human body is immensely complicated. The interconnectivity is astounding — I can relieve tightness in my feet and suddenly feel looser in my upper back. Improving mobility and movement patterns is the world's most complicated game of whack-a-mole. You can fix a flaw or issue in one area only to reveal an issue in another. The "unwinding" of modernity — life at a desk, years of poor posture and movement patterns — is time-consuming and intricate. I could have never done it alone.
I used to wake with a tight upper back. I'd pick up new sports only to be deterred by nagging pains. I thought that it was "normal" or "ok" to leave a workout and to feel wound tight or the twinge of a joint.
It took me a lot of time and patience working with Danica to get where I am today. Many months were spent shedding a lot of the BS I'd taken in before meeting her. But in the last several months we've really clicked.
We still have lots of work to do. But I feel better than I ever have. I no longer wake with nagging pain/tightness, my posture has significantly improved, I can confidently perform workouts that make me feel better, not worse. I've been able to pick up cycling and snowboarding this past year with no physical consequences.
I feel better than I ever have. And, as a bonus, I look my best too.
Danica really knows her stuff. She's been doing this for years and her skepticism means she has a holistic approach to the human body that is untainted by the latest fads. Be patient and listen. Change takes time. You'll get past the idea that there is no "biohack" that will solve your problems or that there isn't just "one thing" with your body that you need to fix. And on the other side, a beautiful relationship with your...
Read moreI have never been in the shape that I'm in EVER in my life. Not as a college athlete or at any other gym. The team at the gym motivate, encourage, and execute on well planned workouts with serious consistency. With their help, I've crushed the barrier that's been hard to get past with previous gyms and trainers - you know, the one where you eventually get 'busy' and stop going. I can't live without my workouts now. I can't recommend enough the staff that makes this place what it is, and the dedication to supporting life changing attitudes. It's a lot more than a gym - and it's a damn great...
Read moreDanica and her team tailor your workout to your needs as they change monthly or annually. I've been working out at TRAIN for years, and having been through childbirth during that time I can tell you I wouldn't be the same person without the support I received pre and post birth from Danica. She knows when to push you and when to hold you back (recovery is hard!). TRAIN is a great community and I highly recommend it to people at any...
