Listening is an art.
My computer suddenly shut off, then got stuck in a loop of turning on and turning off after 2 seconds again, repeat.
I told them I had checked powercord, surge box and wall outlet; I had checked possible RAM issues; that I had disconnected all components including mobo, cpu, hard drives, rom drives, usb ports, gfx card, and the problem still persisted. I asked if they agreed I should replace the PSU.
"No, definitely not the PSU," they said. "Replacing RAM would be your cheapest fix." (Really!? Replacing 32gb of ram is the cheapest option!?) "If you're not attached to your data, we'd be happy to replace your hard drive, maybe put in a solid state drive."
I don't know what my face looked like, but it must have been a misinterpreted expression of surprise since I couldn't believe they somehow found the logic to think that 1. It was a RAM issue while the mobo wasn't even powered. 2. That that was the 'cheapest' option. 3. That they suggested a hard drive swap. 4. That they suggested installing an SSD without checking whether I already had one. (I do. 2.)
"Definitely not the PSU," they reiterated, even though I pointed out I highly suspected the PSU probably shut off to protect the innards and that there were some weird crackles in the current PSU.
"Nah, that's normal," they said. "Could be your mobo, but probably just RAM. We can replace 32gb for around 600$"
I bought a PSU for 100$, installed it myself and everything works perfectly again. Except this nagging feeling that many customers probably have ended up paying 6 times as much without having their problem solved.
Will never use their services. Seriously, you're better off asking your local computer enthusiast or repair shop...
Read moreI was ignored and purposely overlooked by one of the employees named Nick... He knew I was there waiting, but, helped the Hispanic Man whom came shortly after me... Nick looked and asked him for help instead of me and after dealing with the customer he was already helping when I showed up, he immediately helped the Hispanic guy... Than after helping him, he never came back out to help me...... I felt it was an undercover way of an employee being racists towards me as an customer... People do not need to straight forward to let a person know they are being prejudice or racists... This is another way a racists person shows they don't want to help a person of color whose been waiting patiently for 20 minutes, but was purposely looked over. But since he had no choice between us, he preferred to help the Hispanic man instead... I'm sure if it was between the Hispanic and a White person, he would of helped the White person out first and ignore the Hispanic guy...
I will make sure I will do my job to let people know that this man pulled out some racists bs on his job... I would not be surprised if whoever is over that store location, will take up for this man cause there is a thing called privilege that they have...
I will do my job to let it know not to go through geek squad at...
Read moreMy all-in-one printer, which I bought from Best Buy 11 months ago, went on the fritz a few days ago; I can't send faxes for some reason. I tried everything I could to troubleshoot it, without success. I finally decided to call my local Geek Squad here in Federal Way - all I can say is WOW! Whoever the other two reviewers are, their experiences sure aren't mine! "Agent Ann" spent close to 45 minutes with me on the phone, set up a home appointment and found a way to save me money on the repair (about half of what it would have cost). She even gave me homework to do beforehand to have my Voip provider check my network connection in the event that's the problem, in which case, I get to call the Geek Squad back and cancel my appointment, without charge. "Agent Ann" was very patient with me - I have been raising three of my grandkids since they were born (now ages 4, 8 and 10) and two were severely drug affected in-utero; I had to ask the agent to hold at least ten times to deal with the kids. She was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. For the past eight or ten years, I have bought nearly all my tech equipment and toys from them, and they've always...
