Page 1 of 2šØšØIāve been going to I Am Loc Shop for plenty of years to be exact It has been six years up until a few days ago! Fast-forward to February 28,2024 when I referred my fiancĆ© to the shop to get braided with weave, we was quoted over the phone and in person 255 for just the braids And I want to make this very clear I even sent the stylist the picture of the style that my fiancĆ© wanted to get so they were very clear of what style she was geting then she was quoted five hours for the service. Her appointment time was form 12 PM and technically supposed to be done by 5 PM!!! Since I drove my fiancĆ© to the shop that day, I ended up dropping her off and knew that it was gonna take a while, so I left after six hours of my fiancĆ© being at the shop I came back to the shop to see where she was at with time and realized that she still had a long way to go SMH mind you were at 6 PM now so I leave because I have to get ready to pick my son up from his afterschool program. As soon as I pick up my son from his after school program I run some errands took my son to go get some food by this time it was about 8 PM. I then called my fiancĆ© to see where she was at with time and she asked the stylist over the phone as I could hear the conversation and said 30 to 45 minutes until she is done. Now again weāre at 8 PM when I called As I have everything on my caller ID, I said OK, and even gave her an extra 30 minutes and got back to the shop around 9:30 PM and when I got there my fiancĆ© was still sitting in the chair with a bunch of her hair still left outš” at this point Iām upset because not only did I waste my time coming up there but having to wait with my son that had to go to school the very next day that was extremely tired of being there but I had no choice but to WAIT since my fiancĆ© didnāt drive all the way From westseattle To come show this black owned business some support Our time was not respected at all SHE DID NOT GET FINISHED UNTIL 12:45 AM SO IT TOOK THE STYLIST 12 HOURS TO BRAID HER HAIR š MIND YOU THEY WERE NOT VERY SKINNY BRAIDS I WOULD SAY THEY WERE MEDIUM WITH WITH MID BACK LENGTH, HERE IS WHERE IT GETS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL We called the shop The very next day to let the business owner Ayana know about what happened But since she wasnāt there we spoke with the receptionist And even then we requested to speak to Ayana since she was the Owner of the shop as we wanted to keep it very professional as well So no gossiping goes around, but the receptionist, Miss Giana Insisted that it was her job and to let her know about what went on, so we did we later than got a call The next day, after speaking with Miss Gianna And thatās when she said Miss Ayana Said that she is sorry about the time But we shouldāve been charged $50 after every hour that we were there lmao even Though we were already quoted a price and told a time, which was the $255 for 5 hours so I politely asked if Miss Gianna could just have Miss Ayana give us a call directly Just in case, any message Was told incorrectly!!!! SO about after two hours Of getting off the phone with Miss Gianna Miss Ayana gives us a call And pretty much kind of says the same thing my wife, then got on the phone and told her that it was very unprofessional to tell Someone five hours for some braids and not get done until 12 hours of being in someoneās hair kind of kept talking over my lady as she was trying to explain what happened, at this very point, my lady was over the situation because it was pointless as she could see it was getting Nowhere, Miss Ayana didnāt want to take...

My crown of waist length locs have become an extension of myself over the past 10+ years. Being particular about who touches my hair, I've been personally tending to my tresses and wanted some additional touches that I am unable to do independently. I was referred to I Am Loc Shop by an acquaintance.
Knowing every business operates differently, I opted to schedule a consultation prior to verify pricing and other details as I don't like surprises. My consult was completed on 11/4/23 with the sister of the owner (Iyana) and my pricing and appointment set for 12/2/23 at 11am (Seattle location). I received two text confirmations that I responded to accordingly. Nothing had changed or needed updating.
I had a party to attend that evening and arrived early. Upon our arrival (I brought my sister with me), Iyana and three others were in the salon. Iyana was actively working on a client and as we entered, she asked who I was and if I had shampooed prior. I responded that I am your 11am appointment and no, I hadn't shampooed. Her sister never mentioned anything about shampooing prior to, so my understanding within the consult is that that would be part of the service I was paying for. Iyana said, "No, absolutely not." Regarding the pricing her sister had told me at my consult, and indicated also that there would be an additional charge for a shampoo as well. At this point, I knew that this wasn't going to work out. Trust was irrevocably broken, and my sister and I walked out.
Money was definitely not the issue, the problem was getting differing price quotes at the last minute, along with her being abrupt and rude when I allayed what was discussed in consultation. She rushed outside as we were getting into my car and was 'apologetic' and said she would do it for the price discussed, but at this point, I was highly perturbed and didn't want anything more to do with her or this goofy, unprofessional business.
TRUST WAS LOST! I WAS DONE...
I declined her request to continue with the service. As we drove off, my sister and I discussed what a dishonest business it was and that they would probably be contacting me again before the day was over trying to right their wrong. Sure enough, within less than an hour I received both a text and a call that I declined.
Perhaps if y'all were honest to begin with, and let your integrity speak for itself, then this may not have occurred. I support black owned business, but I don't support BS. I didn't deserve that and while I forgive, I have no use for you in my life. Moving...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGO ELSEWHERE! I started out in November 2020 with starter dreads at this place $300 is what they charged. They recommended come to their shop every 3-4 weeks the 1st year, $100 each time, by August 2021 still looked like i had an afro with twists, $1500 spent by this time and STILL no dreads. Finally almost a year & $1500 later they put artificial hair in with mine and dreads finally started. Fast forward from 2022-2024 & spent $2000 in those 2 years on maintenance, adding artificial dreads because they still had no idea what they were doing. At this point I'm at $3500 spent by October 2024, I asked for an appointment for an interlock, they sent me to the 38th st location in Tacoma. The stylist starts working on my hair for about twenty minutes, and then she tells me she doesn't know how to do interlock so she calls the owner, and then the owner says, just do a maintenance, and she didnt even know how to do that, she probably did like 3 twists on my hair and then I said, i'm done after about 45 mins because at this point, my hair looked absolutely terrible So the stylist calls the owner and the owner said charge him $100. I even took pictures and sent it to the owner about how dissatisfied I was with that appointment. They never refunded my money or gave me another appointment. But the owner send me a text message saying that the stylists don't want to work with me because my expectations are too high. I said I spent $3500 in 4 years trying to get dreads that look as professional as every other person's out there in mine are the worst looking dreads i've ever seen in my life. I Am Locs is full of scam artists and stylists that have no clue what they're doing, and I would recommend going somewhere else!!!!!!! They never got real dreads started on my hair so they kept putting this "artificial hair". They just twisted my hair and then got this bag of artificial hair and just kept wrapping it around my hair in circles, so when I would try to bleach the dreads, you can actually see all the different artificial hair they put in with these pictures, that didn't bleach. I finally got to the point where I just cut everything off and found a new shop so now i have to restart this all over next year!!! Wasted $3500 for this shit over...
