Michaels — Local services in Forest Hills

Just putting it out there that I'm not a very crafty person, but my wife is. She does a lot of sewing and knitting, which is probably over 95% of the reasons I've ever gone to Michaels. I think I wandered into Michaels once to find some scissor or maybe a centering ruler, but there's never much of a reason for me to go in by myself.

It's not uncommon for us to make multiple trips to Michaels when my wife has a project going on. Thread. Binding. Fabric. This little doo-dad or that thingamajiggy. Michaels usually has what she needs to finish/enhance what she's working on.

The selection is usually pretty good and the staff is always helpful. There are more than a few times that some sections are pretty empty. At the same time, there are boxes laying around that, I assume, is newly received merchandise that has yet to be put out.

They recently installed self-checkouts at this location. I (me, Jim) is not a fan of self-checkout...and that's all I have to say about that.

If it's not in stock you can order what you need via the website and (I believe) have it shipped to the store.

I've been in here a couple of times and they have all been less than impressive. The first time I got on the website looked to see if something was in stock which it showed to be. Got the aisle location for the product and went in. Out of stock. Ok no prob I get it computers aren't always right. Last week, got online, looked up 2 things and went in again. This time, as I went up and down the aisle where the product was suppose to be nobody offered to ask if I needed help despite the two employees at the end of the aisle talking about their weekend plans. Then when I found the location for what I needed, out of stock on the items. Not even a place for that brand on the shelf. The employees could careless if you're in there shopping or not. The cashier rang me up and the only thing she said was, do you want a bag? Nothing else. Didn't give me my change, just laid it on the counter. Where the heck has customer...

I can usually find what I am looking for at Michael's on my own because there is never enough helping the store. When I went to check out today there were literally 13 people in front of me with only one line open. I finally spoke up to the cashier asking her if she could bring more help up to check out these customers. She said there were only 2 of them in the store and the other woman was in framing. I went back there to have her check me out and told her what was going on up front. Unfortunately her store manager or regional manager had all of the stores on a conference call at 12:15 pm no less. It is always like this in this store. I spend no less than 20 minutes waiting to check out and most times more. The Michael's on Westport Road never has this problem. They will he getting my business in the future. Poor planning by store management doesn't sit...
