Eggoholic is all shell, no substance.
I had high hopes for Eggoholic. The name alone sparked excitement—finally, a restaurant celebrating the humble egg through the lens of Indian street food, particularly the vibrant culinary traditions of Ahmedabad and Surat. Unfortunately, what I encountered was nothing short of culinary blasphemy. The food here is an absolute joke. I'm not talking about dishes that merely miss the mark—this is food that fundamentally misunderstands what makes Indian street food special. The quality hovers somewhere below mediocre, which is being generous. Where to even begin? The eggs were overcooked and rubbery, completely lacking the delicate texture you'd expect from proper street-style preparations. The spices—which should be the soul of any Indian dish—tasted stale and poorly balanced, as if someone had consulted a recipe book and decided to ignore half the ingredients. There was no depth, no layering of flavors, no warmth that makes you close your eyes and savor each bite. If you've ever had authentic egg dishes from the streets of Ahmedabad or Surat, you know the magic lies in the details: the perfectly runny yolk, the charred edges from a well-seasoned tawa, the aromatic masala that dances between spicy and savory. Eggoholic delivers none of this. Instead, you get something that feels like a half-hearted approximation created by someone who has perhaps heard about Indian food but never truly experienced it. For a restaurant that specializes in egg dishes, getting the basics this wrong is unforgivable. This isn't just bad food—it's an insult to the rich street food culture they're claiming to represent. Save your money and...
Read moreEggholic opened in the strip mall of Hurstbourne and Bunsen Way. This is actually a franchise based out of Chicago. The concept with this restaurant is utilizing eggs in Surat street food. Surat is a city in India, in the state of Gujarat. Now the interesting part about this restaurant is it I’m Gujarati, and I have never heard of this style of cuisine. A lot of folks in India especially Gujarat tend to be vegetarian. Many of them do not eat eggs. So this type of cuisine was very new to me. However, in Surat, this type of cuisine is a delicacy. It’s all about the combination of spices. The menu has a lot of options: some involve eggs, some involve chicken, and some involve street food favorites like grilled sandwiches. These are items you’re not going to find at any of the other Indian restaurants that I’ve discussed or that we have in town. Thanks to a yelp event I was able to try the Anda masala sandwich. This was an incredible mix of flavors. Think an Indian spiced egg salad, with a grilled cheese, tomato, bell pepper, lettuce in a sandwich. It’s paired with chips and some ketchup. The flavor combination was out of this world tasty. I’ve never had anything like it. I also got the Surti gotalo. It was a spiced curry topped with two eggs. I had it with the rotli (bread) and it was delicious. The atmosphere is hip and trendy. The murals are adorable. This is all counter service, and very inviting. I may have dreams about the sandwich, and I’ll have to try my favorite samosa chaat here next time or...
Read moreBAD ATTITUDE: I ordered their chicken pulav for dine in it was good. So ordered it 3 times after that through grubhub when at work for lunch , all the three times didn't get raita along with it. order the same today and called the restaurant to inform they have been missing sending raita along with pulav , the young lady's response was it would be $3 charge you don't get it when you order online ( With a bad audacious attitude). where as it clearly mentions that "Veggie rice with chicken: served with raita" . when I mentioned that , immediately she passes the phone to a guy who was even more adamant and started being rude and said that he talked to me when I went to their restaurant last time. and asked me to contact grubhub for the mistake. I was like really , It is you guys who put up the description and throwing grubhub under the bus, then he even said to call the the number he gave me last time. I was like who are you even thinking I am . he realizes that he was talking to the wrong person and apparently seems like the other person has the same issue. Long story short at this point its not about the raita for me, but the fact that " do what ever the hell you want " kind of attitude when i pointed out the issue on their end , when questioned why they are not taking ownership of the issue the responses are outrageous. no matter what the issue is customer has to be dealt with respect.
