Updated review: I stayed at the Ramada Plaza Inn again while attending the same event as before. They are in the middle of remodeling, so I hope things will improve. I'm not very optimistic, though.
For some reason reservations were not available online, even at the normal rate. I had to call to make a reservation. The first time the lady seemed to have no idea how to do it and put me on hold and never came back. I called back the next day and this time the person was able to help me, but they failed to enter my rewards membership number even though I gave it.
When I arrived on the day of my reservation, less than an hour after check-in time, there was only one lady working the front desk. She was doing her best, but the line was across the lobby to the front door (and at times farther). This seems like a serious planning misstep.
There was no heat in the hallways. Presumably due to the construction. Our room was at the end of the building, by an exterior entrance. It was supposed to be accessible via a room key, but that was never needed as it drug the ground and would not close. There was always an open door from the parking lot into the hotel.
The room itself was just as dated as before, except for the bathroom which appears to have been updated. The shower appeared very nice, but one use changed my opinion. First, there were no flat surfaces anywhere inside the shower for putting soap, shampoo, etc. In fact, the only flat surfaces in the entire bathroom were the very small spaces on either side of the faucet of the sink and the back of the commode. The shower curtain wasn't big enough for the shower. Not just by a little.... it was about 18" too short. I quickly learned that it was ok to just leave that gap on the side opposite the shower head, though, because the pressure was so horrendous there was no chance of it splashing out. In fact, I'm surprised the water managed to hit the ground with such terrible pressure.
My room had a second door leading to the "closed" pool area. I'm glad I tested access with my key, though, because I didn't not work. It would have been easy to get locked out by going out that door (which was closer to get to the vending machines) then finding the key didn't work, and my main door had the security latch in place.
From morning until early-evening the maids could be heard loudly talking in the hallways, which was annoying, but at least I wasn't trying to sleep.
All in all, not a great experience. I hope things improve with the remodel, but at this point I'm prepared to find better lodgings and just drive to the conference center each day rather than staying on site.
Original review (3 stars): I stayed at the Ramada Plaza Inn while attending an event in the Conference Center. My room was clean and comfortable, but there were signs of neglect everywhere. Usually I overlook little things, but there were so many, especially for a Ramada. Broken lights in the elevator, broken/missing trim pieces, torn and stained carpet in the hallways, etc.
I would not suggest staying here while an event is taking place at the conference event if you are not attending said event. Parking is limited, and the increased traffic from an event can quickly take up the available parking. I left for lunch one day and when I returned had to part 2 entrances away from the one closest to my room and was lucky to find a spot that close.
The most frustrating thing to me, though, was the lack of enough ice machines. Since my room did not have a refrigerator I had to rely on ice to keep drinks cold. I called the front desk to ask for the location of the nearest ice machine and was given two options. Neither of those locations had an ice machine, unless it was behind locked...
Read moreDO NOT STAY HERE! We came as a group & had booked 5 rooms with a promise that 2 of the rooms would be conjoined. My son is autistic & we needed the conjoined room so that he wouldnt be disturbed while he slept as I did work in the next room but could still keep an eye on him. When we got there they didn't have the conjoined room as promised. So the rude guy @ the desk Tim (the manager i believe) told us we could leave since they didnt have the conjoined room..... I said no we will make it work & its late the kids need to go to bed. So then he told me that the pool was shut down so we could leave.... I said that's fine we've been @ Kentucky kindom & the kids have been playing in the water park there all day. Then he informed me that I couldn't use my AAA discount there so we could leave... I said that's fine the kids are tired we will take the rooms. 3 times this guy tried to get us to leave! The room I stayed in HAD NOT BEEN CLEANED from the previous guests stay. The beds were unmade & slept in & there was trash all over the room. I took a vedio of the room & went to the front desk to show Tim. Tim glanced @ it for 1 second & refused to look any further & said with an attitude "WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO ABOIT IT?!" I said nothing I guess I should stay in the dirty room...what do you mean what do I want you to do about it? I would like a clean room please. He told me I can go somewhere else & I said no the others are settled in the other 4 rooms & its to late to try & find somewhere else to stay for all of us. I'm sure you can find me a clean room (the hotel was practically empty). He then told me to have a nice day....he wanted me to leave...with no refund or give me another room because I requested a clean room. He informed me that I was "attacking him" just because I asked in a CALM voice for a clean room. He was trying to play victim, I wouldn't of believed that someone could behave like this if I hadn't seen it for myself lbvs. Another lady @ the front dress jumped in & gave me another room. All the while Tim was shouting from across the room @ my husband because my husband asked for the # of an higher up. I told Tim not to talk to us anymore cause we were done conversing with him cause he was not helping us & the lady was taking care of us. Tim continued to yell & try & bait us & removed his name tag. The lady tried to defend him & told us that Tim was just wound up cause he got into it with another customer. Maybe Tim needs to retrained. The 2nd room I was placed in had grease streaks, hand prints & kiss marks all over the windows. The tub had PUBE HAIRS ALL IN IT! I delt with it rather then having to talk to Tim again about changing my room. My autisic son takes bathes instead of showers cause he has sensory issues, he doesn't do well with water raing down on him. I wasn't about to give him a bath in a tub with pubes in it so he had a very difficult shower. :( 1 of the other rooms that my daughter stayed in didn't have a working shower @ all, that room got switched out as well. Someone else that stayed there told us they seen a rat running the halls all night. The place is a maze, the halls stink & the elevator smells like a dirty toliet, the rooms are dirty, & the staff is very rude! Spoke with Ellen Lott who is over the dump & all she wanted to do was give me $20 back for the experience. I told her that wasn't enough & she...
Read moreDO NOT STAY HERE! The place looks like a run down motel from the late 70s early 80s. It's disgusting. The walls look nicotine stained alone with the doors and trim. Stadium Joes staff especially Ryan is nice but the rest of the staff is terrible. We came for a conference. Day 1, when we arrive, apparently the staff had some local patrons that were always waiting for their "dates" and they would scream and yell profanities and racial slurs in the lobby and directly out front. The night staff didn't know how to work the system. One of the girls was talking to her "baby" on the phone instead of providing good help to the new girl. They also got our reservation dates and vouchers wrong. Clearly printed on our reservation we were to arrive on the 17-20 and we were to receive breakfast vouchers. They had us arriving the 18-21. She didn't see the vouchers on her end but said come back tomorrow before breakfast. Barely any of the vending machines worked and the hotel is like a maze. Or the creepy hotel from the Shining. So we go to the front desk and ask the staff for help the next morning. Same two girls from the previous night were both sleeping on the couch and when we asked them for help they continued to lay there and said they "didn't know how to get into our conference room". One of them, in her socks, walked over and took 15 min to get us expired breakfast vouchers. Luckily Ryan from stadium joes honored it.
The next day I ask to use their stapler and I was told I had to bring all my stuff to the front if I wanted to use it because their stapler keeps disappearing. Also, if I wanted them to make me a few copies it'd be 10 cents per page. If I wanted to go to the business center it would be free. So I go to the business center and the internet barely works at this place. There's tons of junk and spam all over the computer and 4 sheets in THERES NO MORE PAPER! The room we did our conference in Kentucky A & B was two rooms out together. Only took us three times asking over a period of 8 hours for maintenance to come tell us the reason why one side of the room is freezing cold and the other side is boiling lava hot was because there's not air ducts in one side. Oh. Ok. As we walk back to dump of a room, in passing the pool, we see two women by it. Inside the pool gates one woman is working on the other woman's hair. All I know is she said don't worry we will get these bugs out. And we booked it to get away. Outside entrance doors were always left jammed open. The rug in the rooms feel wet and moldy. The hallways smell like smoke and marijuana. It's a complete joke of a hotel and needs someone to come revitalize it. Or destroy it. Either way. I'd never...
