Bottom Line Up Front: Extremely happy with the service and James went above and beyond!
My Samsung Galaxy S9 had a broken rear camera glass. I brought the phone in and initially, the employee who helped me was not stellar (I didn't get his name). I asked to speak to the manager, whose name is Andy. Andy was very helpful and accommodating. I was told that in addition to the cracked glass, there was a scratch on the rear camera lens, which they saw under a microscope. I agreed to have the rear camera replaced, as well, since it's not unreasonable that broken glass could scratch the camera lens. I was told that it would take 3 to 5 business days to get the part in. The part came in within that window, and I received a text that I could bring my phone in for the repair.
Apparently, Asurion has a contract with Samsung to fix Samsung phones. Samsung is very strict about repairs to their items. They only allow OEM parts, and the item undergoes diagnostic testing upon intake, as well as after the repair. If there are any other issues with the item, in addition to whatever the customer brought the item in for, Asurion MUST repair any other issues, or they can't work on the phone.
For example, if the customer brought the phone in for a broken screen, and upon performing their diagnostics, Asurion finds that there is something else wrong, even if the customer had no idea, or didn't care, that there was another issue, Asurion must fix the other issue, per the agreement with Samsung. If the customer declines to have the other issue repaired, then Asurion will not be able to work on that phone, at all.
I was told that the diagnostics performed upon intake of the item cover the customer, since if everything was fine upon intake, except for whatever the item was brought in for, then any issue that pops up in the diagnostics after the repair is most likely due to an issue with the repair itself. If that is the case, Ausurion will perform the repair of that new issue at no extra charge. Of course, that could mean not being able to get your item back the same day.
I had spoken to James by phone, and I asked for him when I brought my phone in. I arrived approximately two hours before they closed (I was told that the repair would take about that long). I should have come earlier, to ensure that James had enough time to perform the repairs. I was told to come back at 6:45.
When I came back, I was told that there was an issue with my phone passing the diagnostics after the repair. Apparently, the fingerprint scanner was not working correctly. They could not release the phone to me until the issue was resolved. I was asked if I could stay after the store closed, so James could fix the problem. I agreed, and James ended up resolving the issue AND staying 30 minutes late, to accommodate me, as I live 40 minutes away and was going out of town the next day and had to have my phone back before then.
I also found out later that upon intake, James had a difficult time getting my phone to recognize the cable he was trying to plug into my phone, so he could do the initial diagnostics. He said he had to try another cable, and it finally worked.
I am so happy with the service I received! James went above and beyond in repairing my phone! It is entirely possible that a different technician may not have had the necessary experience to resolve the issues the way James did. Plus, he stayed 30 minutes late because he knew I had to have my phone back that day. If I have any other issues with my phone, I will definitely...
Read moreAfter two attempts to repair my iPhone 14 Pro Max back I was very disappointed in the result. The first time I had the back glass replaced it was less than 24 hours before it broke and after working with them by bringing the phone back in for inspection they admitted it was fault of installment and concluded I had not dropped the phone. Another week goes by after having my phone repaired for the second time and when taking my case off for cleaning around the camera I notice it is cracked again. Not only this, but the back glass is not sealed at all to the phone the corners where the camera is visibly raised from the metal surrounding that should be surrounding the glass. It did look fine upon initial inspection but I would highly recommend you look elsewhere before having your phone repaired at this shop. I did not call back as within four trips to this location they were still unable to fix my phone properly.
Before you can have your phone repaired they want to inspect it which is fine, they explain the reparation process and you either agree or disagree and pay half up front. I paid, agreed and was optimistic about the repair.
The first trip to get it repaired they forgot to order the MagSafe strip that gets glued on the back, no big deal they offered to repair it at a discounted rate but I told them I did want my wireless charger to work that was magnetic.
So on the second trip just a few short days later I dropped off my phone to have it repaired, it appeared to be fixed but as mentioned above it wasn’t 24 hours before I heard crunching behind my case and once the case was removed I saw the carnage of which was once my back glass.
After a third trip there for them to reinspect the repair as over the phone I was at fault, and there was no warranty on the glass. However I argued it was the work.. not the glass or my mistake. Once in person they quickly noticed the pattern of which it cracked and took fault in the repair that was completed. They agreed to replace the back again at no cost and apologized for the upset on the phone.
Fast forward to the forth trip, the parts arrived, I dropped off my phone and picked it up later very pleased with the fact it was finally repaired and hoping that it was done right. Keeping in mind this was just two months after the iPhone 14 Pro Max had been released I was happy to have it at least repaired. Unfortunately that was short lived as within a week the crack was back, and the crunching was in my case again when I removed the case I was just disappointed.
Fast forward to a year later now, I’ve just lived with the cracked back as it wasn’t worth yet another at minimum two trips to Fredericksburg for me to possibly have it repaired, and broken again.
In person they were very nice and professional, however the work that was completed was unfortunately not able to withstand the...
Read moreI have to say, my experience with uBreakiFix yesterday has got to be one of the worst experiences I've ever had with technical support. Before I go any further, everyone at the location was absolutely pleasant and friendly throughout the entire ordeal.
I brought my phone to them yesterday through an authorized repair via my Verizon insurance. The only thing they needed to do was replace the battery in my phone. Easy-peasy. Or so I thought. After a couple of hours, I was called by Kayla to let me know that my phone's motherboard suffered some sort of shock and would no longer turn on so they'd have to contact Verizon to get me a replacement through my insurance. So off I went back to the store so we could call Verizon. That process was a pain for a variety of reasons, but that's tangential to this review. Long-story short, after being on the phone with Verizon for 30-40 minutes in the store I needed to go home to access my Google account which resulted in another hour and half of the phone with Verizon's technical support. Once I got off the phone with Verizon's support I returned to the store to pick up my now broken phone. Out of habit, I placed the phone in my car's charger/holder and lo and behold the screen lit up and showed the phone charging. So I did what anyone would do, I turned on my phone. You know, the phone that Kayla said would no longer turn on. It booted up just fine. Once I got home I discovered the screen had been damaged while "being repaired" and the speaker for phone calls no longer works. At this point, I needed to call Verizon again because I had attested to them that the phone had no damage beyond the battery that was supposed to be replaced. So there went another hour and a half of my life. Luckily Verizon immediately understood what had happened and took steps to ensure that I would not be charged for a damaged device since the repair facility is responsible for ALL of the damages to my phone.
So let's recap: I brought my phone to this location for a battery replacement. I received back a phone with a damaged screen and non-functioning speaker after being told that the phone wouldn't boot up at all. I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions as to why I would be told that the phone wouldn't turn on after the screen and speaker would be damaged.
To be fair, my first visit here about a year ago went just fine. My screen was replaced with no additional issues. I was thoroughly surprised by the absolute fiasco that took up the vast majority of my day yesterday.
I'm also happy to tell the story of how the District Manager managed to be confused by their system and thought my appointment in Fredericksburg, VA was in Brandywine, MD so he canceled it. I needed to call Verizon to fix that mistake too.
I don't know what they're smoking at this establishment but at this point, I think they should...
