I have stayed at 2 Gatlinburg Online Cabins. The first, Bear Necessities, was 2 years ago. The cabin was exactly as advertised. It was clean, pest free, and everything (appliances, hot tub, grill) was in working order. My cousin had payed for that cabin and found the staff very helpful. She never had any issues with the billing.
Our same group from that trip 2 years ago decided to go back again this year for vacation. I decided to take care of the cabin rental this time. This time we booked the cabin Bear it All. The booking process was very easy and all the fees we paid were clearly listed as well as the security deposit. When I had lost the info in my inbox they even called before my trip to make sure I had everything and even resent my receipt, rental agreement, and directions to the cabin. They also both texted and e-mailed me the security code for the cabin at the exact time they had promised and even made a follow up call to make sure I had received the text and had the directions I needed to find the cabin. I only needed to talk to the staff twice while I was at the cabin and both times they were helpful and friendly.
The Cabin was beautiful and I could not have asked for a better view. The road going up was kind of a little crazy but we had rented a car for that exact reason (something I'd advise people look into if you are going to be driving up and down mountains). The cabin was clean and everything was in working order. We had both a hot tub and a Jacuzzi in our cabin and both worked perfectly. The only real issue we had was that the owner of the cabin had not supplied trash can enclosures for the cabin. This was an ongoing issue since the animals of that area clearly knew what cabin to hit up every night. We were visited by a bear, many raccoon, and at least one cat. The cans were right by our front door so we decided to move them to the screened in porch (which had locking screen-doors). We were afraid that keeping them by our door would possibly lead to a very close encounter that we didn't want. The next morning we found that the trash had again been overturned and that something (we think it was a couple of raccoon) had actually cut through the screening in the door. We called the CGO staff and they sent a maintenance person out right away to fix the screen and the woman we spoke to was eager to help us. I did ask her about why this cabin didn't have trash enclosures when all the other ones near us did and she explained that the owner simply hadn't bought them. In the survey I did for GCO I did highly encourage that they speak to the owner about getting some trash enclosures. *If you find yourself having this same issue you can and should call GCO's office and schedule an additional trash pick up. This should at least cut down on those nightly wildlife visitors.
Overall I really loved the Bear it All cabin and had an amazing time on my vacation. This cabin has a really amazing view and was positioned between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. I rented this cabin in the summer so I'm not sure how accessible the roads leading to it would be in the winter. If you are renting in the winter I would suggest looking into this more. The roads are very steep and winding with a lot of drop offs and sharp turns. You will need to drive carefully. Also I do suggest renting a decent vehicle (I'd suggest you do that in general for this area since you'll probably be driving up and down a lot of mountain roads).
I will rent from this...
Read moreBetter than Ripley's haunted adventure !!! My husband, my mom, the baby (4.5 month old) and I stayed at the cabin called "A slice of Heaven" which unfortunately was everything BUT a slice of heaven. We reached the place around evening and was pleasantly surprised to see everything in order and the kitchen even better equipped than our previous cabin stay with a different company. I walked around the cabin to check out the patio and the sitting area and the whirlpool tub and noticed these worm like things crawling all over on the ground and on the door mat outside. I thought it's a forest so these things are bound to be present and walked on. I glanced up on the ceiling and gasped seeing the same worms crawling all over on the ceiling and the beams. I thought it's okay as long as they are outside and came back into the cabin. I opened the side door that leads to the patio and a shower of worms dropped down on the floor and i had to jump back. I thought this might be a small hiccup and i shouldn't let this affect our stay. WRONG !! Come dusk all these slimy creatures started getting into the cabin through the gap in the doors and windows. They were everywhere; on the carpet, on the sofa, on the floor, on the curtains, in the kitchen, in the bathroom. I mean literally everywhere. It was difficult to walk without having to stomp on them so you can imagine. For a while my husband and I tried killing them by stepping on them but no avail they just came in by the dozen. We couldn't use the bedroom downstairs since they were there too. Ultimately we called up the office citing this as a problem which went to the answering service (no use). In the end, my mom, my husband and I had to sleep in the bed in the loft which was comparatively a lesser affected area in the cabin. Come morning, we called up at around 8:15AM(their office opens at 8) citing the same issue and it went to the answering service(they said the office could open 'any' minute now. So much for punctuality). We decided that we couldn't stay any longer in that place with the baby in tow and decided to check out to a hotel. Around 11AM a maintenance person came in and checked the floor and said " These are just caterpillars. They are totally harmless. I can spray the house and the surroundings for you". We said no thank you, we don't want to stay around and find out if your spray is effective or not. I called up later to let them know that we are checking out and the only point they said repeatedly was "NO REFUNDS". And, also that forests have worms. I have stayed in cabins before and in no place do these kind of pests come inside the cabin. Further more, this might happen with a bear too and we don't want to be the ones to find out if this place can keep out bears. With a baby around, I don't want anything crawling up on him, harmless or not. The worst part is that they knew they had to spray the pesticide and clean up the outer area which, they did not and it caused this. Just because we paid the money doesn't mean that we have to put up with this bullshit they say. All in all, i would recommend NOT to spend money at ripley's haunted adventure. This is the best !!! It's like real life fear factor. Families, please think twice before you decide to subject your children to this and undergo mental and emotional trauma that we have had to endure. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. Spend your money elsewhere. It is...
Read moreLet me start off by saying that we had a great time. We stayed in the Once Upon A Time cabin. It was just me and my husband and we found it to be plenty of room for the both of us. But the cabin is advertised to sleep 5... Technically that is correct. There is a king size bed, a futon, and a sleeper sofa. I do not recommend this cabin for couples who want to bring someone along because there is no private space at all. The fireplace, grill, outdoor Jacuzzi, kitchen appliances, washer, dryer, pool table, and cable worked great. We were warned of ladybugs coming into the cabins, but we never saw more than a few and they were not a problem.
We had fun time, but I would not book through them again.
Here are the negatives: They called my cell to check on our travel around the time we were supposed to check in. I appreciated that, I told her we were about 2 hours out having lunch in Asheville, NC. She told me to call her if I had any issues between then and when I arrived, and gave me the code to enter the cabin. What she forgot to mention was that the road 441 through the national forest was out due to a rock slide. Talking to people later in Gatlinburg, we found that this was common knowledge among the locals. We could have planned around it, but instead we had to waste time driving along a road that we had to back track on. It cost us about 2 extra hours. I don't know that this is completely her fault, but it would have been nice to know.
The first thing I did, after our 10 hour drive was take a bath in the indoor Jacuzzi. But when I turned the jets on, I discovered that the pump was FULL of dead bugs. I jumped out and rinsed myself off in the shower. My husband tried to run the pump to clear the bugs, but we could never get them all out.
There were a lot of broken things, from kitchen utensils to the lights along the pathway out front. We were afraid we might be blamed and charged for them. It hasn't happened yet, so I think we are ok. If they were to blame us for the broken items, it would be their word against ours.
The DVD player was problematic. It was not set up right and we had to spend half an hour figuring out where to plug in the cables. There were no batteries for the remote, and no controls on the DVD player. The power hiccuped halfway through our movie and there was no way to fast forward, so we had to watch the first half of the movie again. The TV upstairs was tiny and I could barely read the text on the screen.
One of the biggest setbacks was the lack of internet and cell connection. Looking at the cabin description, it never claims to have internet, so I guess I can't fault them too much on that, but a bigger disclaimer would be nice. Because we had not planned out the trip entirely before we went, it was a struggle to figure out what we were gonna do most of the time. We had to drive 30 minutes back to civilization to get a cell signal again even to be able to look up addresses and phone numbers. The phone in the cabin did not have long distance service, so it was hard to communicate with my job or family.
I reiterate, despite all this, we had a good time. It could have gone much worse, though. STAY AT...
