LeConte Lookout Overall Stay: Decent, but Needs Attention to Detail
We recently stayed at this cabin, and while the overall experience was decent, there were several issues that need to be addressed before we could consider recommending it or returning. The property clearly seems to have been quickly flipped, and while it has great potential and looks beautiful at first glance, there are several things that need fixing.
The Middle Bedroom: The bed was one of the main issues here. It sounded like it was about to break every time you sat downâit creaked and squeaked loudly, which made sleeping uncomfortable. Additionally, the fireplace in this room was nonfunctional. We even checked the serial number, and it showed an error code indicating it was broken. The shower in this room also had issuesâthe handles were barely attached, and would fall off with the slightest movement. Itâs clear that some corners were cut in this room.
The Back Bedroom: This room felt like it may have been an addition to the house, as it didnât heat well at all. The fireplace in the room didnât do much to warm it up, and we had to rely on auxiliary heat to stay comfortable. The mattress was good, but the bed frame had a nail sticking out, which I unfortunately snagged my leg onâthankfully, my clothing took the brunt of it. Still, this is something that definitely needs fixing.
The Front Bedroom: This was the best of the three rooms. It heated well, and the bed, while a little soft, squeaked only slightly. It was the most comfortable and the least problematic of the sleeping spaces.
The Hall Bathroom: The bathroom looked nice, but there was visible water damage to the wood under the sink. This could turn into a bigger issue if not addressed soon.
Kitchen, Living, and Game Area: The kitchen was visually appealing, but had a few issues. The faucet made a strange buzzing noise when turned on, which was off-putting. The microwave seemed faulty, as it turned on and off intermittentlyâdefinitely wouldnât recommend using it. The kitchen table was another concernâit wasnât very sturdy, and even after I hand-tightened the bolts, I didnât feel comfortable leaning on it. The recliner in the game room was broken, making it unusable. While the game table and games were fun, this room seemed like it was once a porch, as there was no heat and it felt cold and unwelcoming. Additionally, the floors werenât level, so we had to be careful about leaving things on counters since theyâd occasionally roll off.
Hot Tub: On a positive note, the hot tub was clean and in good condition. It was definitely a relaxing perk of the stay.
Final Thoughts: While the cabin was clean and beautiful from a distance, the numerous maintenance issues made it less than ideal. Itâs clear the house needs some attentionâespecially in terms of furniture, heating, and some structural repairs. If these issues were addressed, I could see this being a great spot for a relaxing getaway, but until then, I wouldnât recommend it or stay...
Read moreWe had some issues with this property.
After using the shower in the upstairs bathroom in the day of arrival, we noticed a leak from the ceiling in the kitchen, directly below where the upstairs shower is located. We immediately notified Jenessa, who responded, "It seems the shower doors upstairs have been switched again. They need to be completely closed in order for water to not get out while someone is showering. That is where that leak comes from". We let her know the doors were in fact closed and that there was no water on the floor of the bathroom that could have caused the leak (2nd contact). On the second day, we again had water leaking from the ceiling in the kitchen, causing both a fall hazard and potential food safely issue. Another message was sent about this (3rd contact) as well as a near-continuous running of the upstairs toilet and some cleanliness issues related to kitchenware. These concerns and messages received no response from Jenessa until day four of our trip.
Overnight between days 3 and 4 of our trip we were awaken in the middle of the night by a bat flying around the unit that were were eventually able to shew out of the unit the next morning. We brought this to the attention of the property managers who were finally moved to respond to this as well as our initial concerns, deciding to send a plumber, offering to send housekeeping, and reportedly making a call to Wildlife Exclusion on day 4 of 6 of our trip.
The plumber was there several hours across two days repairing the leaks that Jenessa initially insinuated to be our fault for "not closing the shower doors". After the first day, the plumber asked us not to use the shower until they returned to fix it. When we returned the second day to find leftover supplies and unaffixed trim, it was uncertain as to whether the job has been completed (an additional failure from the management company to communicate). We had to follow up again to determine the status of the safe use of the shower.
Perks of this property included- use of the Xplorie discount program, great location, spacious, clean hot tub, nice and well-functioning kitchen appliances.
Had our concerns been addressed in a timely manner, a higher (4 stars) would have been awarded. Rentals are bound to have issues from time to time, but the insinuation that we caused the issues, followed by a three day period of ignoring our messages and failure to take action was disappointing to...
Read moreThe cabin seems really remote when you first arrive. However, it is located about 15 minutes to Pigeon Forge and 30 minutes to the hustle and bustle of Gatlinburg.
Our favorite attractions in Pigeon Forge were the pirate dinner theater, crime museum, Escapeology, and various mountain coasters. There are a ton of shops for just about every need within 15 minutes. There is also a Kroger and Publix for shopping convince. Do not pass up the opportunity to stop in at Whaley's Country Store located at the intersection of Walden Creek rd and Goose Gap rd!
In Gatlinburg, you will find a ton of shops, arcades, Anakeesta, many wine and moonshine tasting spots, and Ripleys. The aquarium gets crowded fast, so use Google to find out the busy times and avoid it. The Ripleys Believe it or Not is amazing, and you can easily spend 2+ hours in both attractions. Parking is pricey, but they do offer a trolley, so you can move throughout Gatlinburg without paying several times.
We found the cabin has plenty of pots, pans, and cooking utensils. They also have some spices in a little rack to the left of the oven. The bed was comfortable and clean. Several towels, washcloths, and kitchen towels were provided. If you plan to use more than the 2 pillows on the bed, bring extra pillow cases as those are not provided.
In the summer months, you can hardly see the neighbors through the thick trees surrounding the back porch. My thoughts are that during the winter, you'll have a little less privacy. Half of the back porch has privacy fencing, though. The grill is perfect for two people, and we found it clean with plenty of propane for our stay. The driveway is steep, so watch out in icy weather, but it definitely adds to the privacy and seclusion of the property.
We had a small technical issue during our stay, and the hosts were not only extremely responsive, but they also fixed it nearly immediately. They were very accommodating, friendly, and dedicated to providing a...
