I had my hair extensions done at Coco Marie Salon in January and initially had a very positive experience. Unfortunately, after about two weeks, I noticed significant breakage and the extensions felt much drier than expected. I contacted the salon, and the owner, Courtney, assured me that the breakage was normal since they’re so blonde, asking me to reach out if the issue persisted. Despite following all of the recommended care steps, the hair continued to shed and break more over time, and I reached out before my first move-up appointment. When I came in for the move-up, the salon agreed the hair must have been a bad batch, I hadn’t done anything wrong, and replaced the extensions for free, which I greatly appreciated and did not expect.
Fast forward two weeks after getting my new hair, and the owner reached out to check on how things were going, which was a nice touch. However, when I mentioned the extensions weren’t nearly as soft as they were at the time of installation (they felt silky smooth to me upon being installed) and asked for product recommendations, I was told that I was "confused" about how they should feel since I’m “new to extensions”. I’ve had clip ins as well as hair extensions installed years back, so this response felt condescending, especially since I fully expected my extensions to remain as soft as day one for at least a little while. I was told the extensions should feel like real hair, but my natural hair is WAY softer than the extensions. At this point, my extensions are breaking again, tangling, and are difficult to brush through. I purchased all of the products recommended (Kerastase shampoo, conditioner, and night serum), and follow all of the care instructions given (not brushing wet, braid to sleep and use a silk pillowcase, heat protectants, etc). Again, I have only washed my new hair 3 times now as I only do so 1 or 2 times a week.
I took my concerns to another salon that currently does my color today, where the stylist confirmed that there was an issue with extension quality and that it was not normal for the hair to be so brittle and tangled after just a few washes. They stated that it shouldn’t be getting breakage so far up the shaft of the strand, and it would have been very difficult for me to even do anything to cause that damage in just a few weeks. I was told that the extensions seem to be consistent with over processing. It’s also worth noting that I have a friend that gets her extensions at Coco Marie, and hers feel nothing like mine as they stay soft for months. My stylist at Coco also had me feel her extensions to know how they should feel. Both of them can run their fingers through their hair, but this is not something I can do with mine anymore after 3 washes.
I had always made it clear I wasn’t trying to get free handouts—I even offered to pay FULL PRICE for new extensions when I first noticed the issue, but the dismissive response from the owner at Coco Marie after her check in left me feeling unheard and honestly kind of hurt my feelings since I really loved my hair and this salon. I don’t like to argue and I’m not into explaining again why I KNOW this hair is damaged, so I ended up just thanking Courtney for her response and initial replacement of the hair (which was still amazing customer service!) and started searching for a new salon. I’ve spent about $2,200 at Coco Marie so far between extensions and products to keep them in great condition, and it’s been 2 months, and I am already through 2 different batches of hair. Now I am paying for new extensions again at a new salon. On top of this, I have my wedding in a few weeks (the whole reason I wanted long hair) and I am dropping even more money to get my dream hair. This whole situation has honestly just left me so sad about my hair and stressed out trying everything to make it work. I unfortunately won't be back however, I do recommend my stylist, Ari, if you do go. She was so sweet...

This review is long overdue. If I could give this salon negative 10 stars, I would.
I rarely take time for myself since I’m running a small business, managing a household, and raising my daughter entirely on my own without family or childcare support. For four years, I have not had a single break. Not an hour to myself, not a weekend off. Every appointment I attend, whether doctors, dentists, or beauty services, has always welcomed my daughter with kindness and understanding.
So for my birthday last year, I finally carved out a small moment to do something for myself. I drove a long way to this salon, excited for what was supposed to be a little bit of pampering. My daughter was just as happy, dancing in excitement before we even got started. She always sits quietly during appointments, never causing a problem.
But the moment I sat in the chair, the owner called my stylist and had her kick us out. (I have always brought my daughter to previous appointments with this stylist at a different salon—this was nothing new.)
No conversation. No compassion. Just immediate dismissal.
I was in tears, my daughter was devastated, and I had to sit in the car explaining to a child why people can be so cruel. Meanwhile, the other stylists just looked me up and down with smug expressions, never offering a kind word or even basic respect.
I went back that Sunday after debating it only to not let my stylist down. (They made me leave my daughter at home and thankfully her dad was able to take care of her on this day) But the owners? It’s disgraceful how they treat others, especially as parents themselves. I refuse to support unkind and vile people with no compassion toward others. They should be ashamed of themselves, especially since they have children of their own. I wonder how they would feel if their own kids were treated with the same coldness and exclusion.
I never returned after that and found a welcoming salon with kind, professional people who now do both my daughter’s and my hair at the same time! It’s a world of difference where we feel valued instead of like an inconvenience.
It’s sad to see a business that claims to empower women operate with such coldness and superiority, turning away a mother on her own birthday. Some of us don’t have the luxury of childcare. Some of us are completely alone with no support. And yet, rather than showing even an ounce of grace, they chose to humiliate and exclude. It was shameful to be kicked out as if I were a criminal, like I had done something wrong, especially with the way the other stylists looked at me.
Hey Chad and Courtney!! I hope you never find yourselves in a position where you are struggling, exhausted, and just hoping for a moment of kindness—only to be turned away and humiliated. I hope your boys never experience the kind of coldness and exclusion that you showed my daughter. I honestly don’t know how you sleep at night treating parents and children this way.
Sometimes, you need to get off your high horse and realize that not everyone has the same privileged life you do. Maybe you had help, maybe things were easier for you—but not everyone has that luxury. Some of us face real struggles every day, and a little kindness and humility would go a long way especially in business.
A salon should be a place of empowerment, kindness, and grace. This place, however, offers none of that.
From business owner to business owner—your customers should come first and should feel comfortable and welcomed.
If you value businesses that treat people with respect and basic human decency,...
