Very barebones Asian snack store with a great selection. The warehouse vibe, stacked cardboard boxes instead of shelves, and prices written on the cardboard made me feel like I was in Chinatown.
Not only Chinese, Japanese, and Korean products, but also some Thai and Vietnamese offerings. Mostly snack foods and drinks, but also some noodles, soup mixes, spices, condiments, jarred foods, health foods, and more. Most of these are products that are hard to find anywhere else in Hawaii, and on the flip side they don’t carry products one might be expecting from an Asian snack store. For example, they only had one flavor of Japanese KitKat when I went. As others mentioned, excellent selection of Lay’s, from China and Thailand mostly.
And yes, a lot of the products, especially the chips, are past their expiration date. Most of them are only recently expired, so they will still be fine if you eat them soon. Those that are quite far past the expiration date are marked down 50%. The cashier also gave me a pack of expired snack bread for free with my purchase. For somebody like me who isn’t squeamish about expiration dates, this place is awesome!
@Ariel W. all of the products I looked at either had only an expiration date or both a production date and expiration date. And there were definitely expired...
Read moreI love this place! It's rundown, yeah, but it's like treasure hunting, that's if you don't mind digging through items boxes after boxes in an almost warehouse environment with concrete floors. At least it's well-lit and I didn't feel it's dirty. But beware of the expiration date on some items.
If shopping in person is not for you, they're also on doordash. With so many selections (and they're adding more gradually as I've noticed), you can easily just pick out a bunch of stuff for pick up or delivery! I love how they're on door dash groceries so I can use my monthly credit. Check your order before you walk out though. More often than not I didn't get all the items I ordered or they didn't get every selection right (for items with different flavors or sizes). The staff have been friendly and helpful though. It helps if you speak mandarin too.
Some of the best items I've had was the lo si fun. It's basically a giant pack of noodles with 6-7 different packets of ingredients to make a very elaborate bowl of instant noodles. Then not to mention the wide variety of Asian Lays chips, crawfish flavor, lobster flavor, cumin lamb flavor, you name it!
It’s not the nicest store but it’s what I’d expect. Just for their selection, prices and how they’re on DoorDash, I love it and...
Read moreI’ve had them bookmarked for a while and happened to be in the area on-foot. It’s definitely not worth a special trip.
You’d never know they were here as there’s no signage on the building, just a faded poster faintly visible from behind the dirty windows.
I arrived a few minutes before their 10am opening. A man arrived just past 10 and unlocked the door, walked in, alarm sounding, followed by a female soon after. The lights got turned on which I took as my cue to enter.
I received no greeting from either of them at any point.
Their selection of Asian-market potato chips is strong. I’ve never seen so many unique flavors before. It’s a no-frills sort of place, with cases of boxes cut open and its contents on display, some on the floor and some on shelves.
The rest of the products were a plethora of seasonings, ingredients, snacks, canned beverages and dry goods.
I was hoping to find some specialty furikake but not even the mainstream stuff could be found.
Quite a few things were 50% off, I’m assuming due to a nearing expiration date, but they’re still fairly pricey for the size you get.
