Shaka Time Hawaii — Local services in Honolulu

We stopped by Shaka Time on Thursday afternoon, just 30 minutes before closing, after deciding last minute to shop for an authentic Hawaiian shirt for myself and a dress for my wife. We had just landed on Oahu for my high school reunion, but I wasn’t happy with the shirt I’d brought from the mainland.

As soon as we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Carlos, the owner. I explained what we were looking for, and he invited us to browse the showroom, which was filled with a great selection of shirts, muumuus, and accessories for all ages and sizes. The variety was impressive—we could have spent hours there—but we were in a bit of a rush to meet friends. I picked up a white long-sleeve shirt for my event, and my wife found a beautiful dress. The store also had a couple of dressing rooms for trying on items.

After purchasing two shirts, we headed back to the hotel. The next day, I tried on my shirt with my dress pants and realized it was too baggy. I usually wear a size large, but this one fit more generously than expected. It was entirely my fault for being impatient and not taking the time to try it on properly in the store.

On Sunday afternoon, my wife left Carlos a message explaining the situation and letting him know we’d return Monday morning to exchange it (they’re closed on Sundays). Before heading to the airport, we stopped by right when they opened. Carlos couldn’t have been more accommodating—he gladly exchanged the shirt for the correct size, no questions asked. My wife even picked up another shirt before we left, mission accomplished.

We were extremely happy with our experience at Shaka Time. The selection is fantastic, the quality is excellent, and Carlos is a pleasure to work with. We’ve definitely found our go-to Hawaiian shirt retailer and will be shopping here again...
