Needed to call the cops to get my clothes!

I dropped off well over a thousand dollars worth of suits for dry cleaning. When I went to pick them up the woman at the counter couldn't find me in the computer. It turned out that, because of the ridiculous system they have (matching the last 4 digits of your phone number), the clothes were logged under another customers account (there were two other people with the same 4 digits).

No problem - mistakes happen - but the woman behind the counter was so immediately hostile and unhelpful I was taken aback. It actually seemed like she thought I was trying to scam her for some reason. Another poster accused them of racism...I don't now about that but I do know I've never received such offensive service from any service provider ever.

Not only would she not let me look for my suits to identify them and determine next steps to resolve the problem (which is what I've been allowed to do with mix ups at other dry cleaners), she wouldn't even look herself based on my very specific descriptions of each article of clothing. Her position was if I wasn't in the system she wouldn't do anything.

I went home and was relieved to find I miraculously still had the paper receipt for the drop off. On that you could clearly see the items of clothing and that they were logged under a different account with the same last four phone number digits.

I returned to the dry cleaner and showed the attendant the receipt with all the information but, because of the hostility and lack of cooperation, I didn't want to give up the receipt until I got my clothes (which is the normal order of operations anyway).

Not only did she refuse to give me my clothes without taking the receipt first (which I didn't want to do), she actually blamed ME for the mix up, as if somehow the clothes being under the wrong account was my fault.

Rather than engaging in a shouting match or battle of wills over something so stupid I told her I was going to call the cops, which I did.

I apologetically called the non-emergency number and let the officer know I was calling for an embarrassingly ridiculous reason but that I didn't know what else to do to get my possessions while avoiding unnecessary escalation.

A couple of officers arrived about 30 minutes later I again apologized and explained that, because of the hostility and lack of cooperation, I just needed someone "official" to bear witness to the transaction just to be sure everything was handled properly and that I received my belongings

Shout out to JCPD - it was an incredibly stupid and unnecessary reason to need to call the police but they handled the call professionally and promptly and the two officers on the scene were great. They "brokered" the transaction, I paid and that was that.

I'm frankly embarrassed even writing this up here but the woman's behavior was so alarming and offensive that I think other customers and potential customers should know to stay away from this place. There are plenty of laundry options and I think folks would be well advised to take their...

TL;DR I was DISCRIMINATED against for being a WOMAN and told I had to pay 140% more to have my clothes cleaned, even though “launder” and not “dry clean” are the care instructions on the tags.

$6 for dry cleaning is a fair price. They did a great job with my “dry clean only” silk blouse and I was happy to pay that price, as that was the specific care instructions for the garment. I would’ve gladly paid this rate for my other blouses and pants as well, as that is the care instructions on the tags.

I brought in a couple 97-100% cotton button up shirts for Launder and Press where the care instructions clearly say to “launder” (machine wash with like, tumble dry low, warm iron). This is how they have been cared for at other cleaners for the last 10 years.

I was DISCRIMINATED against for being a WOMAN, and was told my shirts did not qualify for this service and would need to be charged 140% more for the Blouse rate, which is dry cleaning. If the care instructions on the tag indicated this, I would’ve been happy to pay, however some say specifically to not dry clean and all say to launder. Originally I was charged the Laundered Shirt rate because they thought it was men’s shirts.

Just moved to JC and was looking for my go-to cleaners, where I can bring my rugs, comforter, work clothes, everything. I would’ve been a very loyal customer. Disappointed in the service I received this morning, hoping they can...

Miles better than the other nearest laundry and overall happy with the place. I see some bad reviews about the service here and it depends who you get. Most of the employees are nice but there is one very nasty lady I had the misfortune of running into today.

My biggest complaint is they seem to prioritize doing full service laundry over people who are there to do their own laundry. I try to go when it's not busy and often all the machines are full (and often finished) with laundry the employees are doing for customers. I wish they could be more considerate of the people who are there to do their own laundry and leave some machines open or quickly move the finished laundry out of machines for customers to use.

It is also expensive and adds up quickly, I somehow spend $20 or more everytime doing a small amount of laundry, but I guess high prices are not unique to this...
