A Taste of Paris in Jersey City - A True Gem! Cafe Madelaine is hands down the crème de la crème when it comes to French bakeries in the New York metropolitan area. Located in downtown Jersey City, this charming establishment has captured the essence of Parisian culinary delights in every scrumptious bite, earning its well-deserved five-star rating. From the moment you step foot through the door, you are welcomed by the tantalizing aroma of freshly baked breads and pastries. The cozy and inviting ambiance, reminiscent of an authentic French cafe, is the perfect setting to savor the artistry that Cafe Madelaine offers. Their extensive menu features an array of traditional French pastries, each more delectable than the last. From the flaky croissants that melt in your mouth to the delicate macarons that boast vibrant flavors, every item is a work of art. The attention to detail in the presentation is truly remarkable, as each pastry is beautifully crafted, leaving you torn between devouring it or admiring its sheer beauty. But Cafe Madelaine isn't just about pastries. The menu also boasts an impressive selection of artisanal breads, sandwiches, and quiches. The baguettes, with their crusty exterior and soft, pillowy interior, are nothing short of perfection. The sandwiches, made with high-quality ingredients and bursting with flavors, are a delightful surprise for your taste buds. And one cannot forget the delicate, savory quiches that are heavenly in every bite. To enhance your experience, Cafe Madelaine also offers an array of carefully selected teas and coffees that pair exceptionally well with their pastries. The staff's knowledge and passion for their craft shine through as they guide you to the perfect beverage to complement your choice of treat. The service at Cafe Madelaine is impeccable. The friendly and attentive staff never fails to make you feel like a cherished guest. Whether you are a regular or a first-time visitor, they go above and beyond to ensure that your visit is memorable. If you're in search of a European escape without leaving the New York metropolitan area, a trip to Cafe Madelaine is an absolute must. From the exquisite pastries to the attentive service, every aspect of this French bakery is designed to transport you to the streets of Paris. Cafe Madelaine truly sets the bar high for French bakeries. It is an oasis where taste, tradition, and quality converge to create a culinary experience that will leave you craving more. So, make a reservation, grab a friend, and indulge in the magic that awaits you at Cafe Madelaine. Your taste buds will thank you for it!

Firstly, the service, specifically from Millie, was brilliant. I also found this place to be 5/5 value for money which ultimately leads me to rank the restaurant 5/5 overall despite a couple of minor areas for improvement :) I requested a flat white coffee, which I appreciate isn't common-place in the US, but it was poured with a little too much milk. My croque monsieur lacked a little je ne sais quoi, but the side salade was delicious both in terms of the ingredients and especially the lovely vinaigrette. The desserts were lovely and left me wanting to come back and try more. The Tarte aux amandes was deliciously moist and delicate in flavour, the mousse had a lovely weight but was a bit light in flavour. Overall I'd definitely come back and have my eyes on the tartelette au citron. I appreciate this is an incredibly detailed review for a quick lunch at a café... As a Frenchman this place immediately fired my imagination, and largely, did not disappoint. Will be back again! PS: I think a photo of Johnny Hallyday would be fantastic for the walls :D We must remember our fallen heroes!!

came in on a rainy Saturday morning with my bf and we opted to dine-in. we ordered at the counter and were given a number to put on the table of our choosing. the cafe offered communal seating, as well as larger and smaller tables to fit your group.

we got the following to try:

-berries danish: sweet, buttery, a nice start!

-bacon croissant: with runny egg, avocado, 1/2 strip of bacon. bf liked this but IMO, the 1/2 strip of bacon just seems kinda stingy given the price.

-le provencal sandwich: loved the combo of roasted peppers, chicken, basil pesto, and lettuce. however, bread was a little hard and dry. i suspect they didn't make their own baguettes, they looked mass produced.

-latte (large): pretty good cup of Joe!

overall, i really liked the place but it can be better with some minor tweaks (more bacon, better baguette). it's more of a 3.5 star kinda place but we will be back to try...
