St. Lucy's Emergency Shelter — Local services in Jersey City

If I could I would give this place a -1000. I suffer from Depression, anxiety and I’m prone to panic attacks. I was sent to this place through a referral twice from Welfare each time that the referral was sent was always after three and that’s because I deal with therapy and other programs which I explained both times so she proceeded to take me in and said that she would give me a bed, but I will have to register in the morning upon doing that they started to search me when they search me they found my medication for my doctor, which is for my heart. I’m also prescribed medical marijuana.this was took by her. I told them that was my meds and I have proof in my bag. They laughed and joked about how they was going to smoke it. I said I was serious and repeated it 3 times . but the marijuana was took by her and confiscated as her and the other security guards laughed about how it was gonna split it. I kept telling them that that’s my medication and I had to proof in my bag and I have all my paperwork with me. She put the rest of my stuff in the security office and still took the marijuana with her without even looking at my proof.

Now mind. You, it was two prescriptions. One was given to the other guard, and she took the other one with her and proceeded out the building, I complained about that because this is my medicatio and it’s not for recreation. Upon this the other guard that remained asked to see it. Once I showed him he said she wasn’t supposed to take it it was to be left in the safe box in the office. At this he proceeded to write it up.

so you mean to tell me that this place that you come for help and u may be mental disability, your meds could be took meaning stole ???🤔

The showers are nasty and I’m not just saying this because of what happened. The showers “ Are “ nasty. It smells like piss. The toilets are right in front of the shower. The residence are not separated from those that just came to spend the night you’re in the same place you’re not separated. I woke up in the middle of the night to find two pple circling over my bed. Thought I was jus tripping until I seen them again and once they noticed they split apart and went to their beds. They was hoping I was sleep so they could steal my stuff from underneath.

Upon waking up I watch somebody steal somebody else’s clothes when they left for work acting like his stuff was missing and this guy took it. That man looks 85 this dude look 30 lol

I told the security guard I will be leaving and I need my medication that was left, my pills. He where proceeded to open up the gate and told me to grab my medication turned his back and walked away I could’ve took every medication I was inside or which ever I wanted and walked, but I didn’t. I just grabbed mine. I handed it to him after I took the pill and said could you walk it downstairs cause you know you’re not supposed to be in the building with it. He said it’s all right. Just take it with you. I never signed for it he never looked at what I took or if it was mine he just said go head and went back to looking in his phone.

This place is not professional at all not healthy. You’re not allowed to eat after 6 PM if caught doing so you will be kicked out they treat you like a prisoner in there and it freezing

Those who have been in there you know so don’t act like you don’t and stop giving these good reviews when you know that there isn’t one unless ur one of them or friends

This place started off nice but as you stay there you see how the staff really is.They expect you to get on your feet in 45 days.If you complain you become a Target to be put back out in the streets.The director is mean and doesn't have a heart well that's how they want these places to be ran by people who don't care so proviety can continue to exist.Its a business because when you hire people who been in the places themselves you would expect some understanding but people always forget where they come from but you know who doesn't the Lord the creator of all things.I feel bad for all the people who live here cause I use to but the Lord is on his way hold on children of the Lord. Just got discharged from St. Barnabas in Tom's River and was excited to start my life in Asbury Park but the placement fell through last second (literally 20 min before my discharge) and I was just at St. Lucy's and they were supposed to have a BED available for me to sleep in not a chair .... and this has been the worst experience with housing in my entire life and I can thank my social worker "Any" from St. Barnabas for that..... my patience was thin as I got here and yet the staff still enjoy powertripping like crazy.... if you don't have a BED available then dont lie to me and...
