This place deserves 0 star. They don’t serve tea, or play healing music like all the other yoga studios I’ve been. Also you have to bring your own yoga mat. I went to the prenatal yoga class 3 times over two months. The first time I had to fill out a bunch of medical info including my DOB, and sign a liability waiver on their website. They have a buy 1 get 1 free offer, but the 2nd class has to be within 2 weeks. The 2nd time I went was after 3 weeks so I paid in full. I tried to book a 3rd class on their website but it won’t let me log on, so I registered again through their app, which shares the same info as the gym app I used when I lived in Jackson Park LIC, so somehow it registered both my name and my roommate’s name. I only realised this after I booked the 3rd class and didn’t think too much about it cuz busy. When I went to the class today, the instructor (and i suppose one of the owners) Reetu wanted to “talk to me” after I had sit down ready for the class, because she found 2 accounts under my name in the system and said I’m not “allowed” to have 2 accounts. After I tried to explain how user unfriendly their website was and how I had to download the app and re-register and how they surprisingly got my roommates’ name in the system, she was already blaming me for arguing with her and went ahead to offer a refund because she “never encountered such rudeness”and that she “has thousands of students” and I don’t need to come back. Mind you I’m a 24 week pregnant woman showing up on a steamy hot day, and she’s literally telling me to go home when it’s their system that messed up my info. There were actually only 8 people in the class. The instructor also delayed the class because she wanted to combine my accounts and force a refund I didn’t ask for. Based on other reviews, they seem to have done this to other Asian women. Their yoga is pretty much like running a youtube yoga video, same...
Read moreThey have a very sneaky and sketchy membership cancellation policy. They charged me for 3 extra months at $125/month and aren't refunding my money. The cancellation policy of needing to email a request 30 days prior to cancellation is only stated at the point of purchase, not on their website, not emailed, and even their staff isn't aware of it.
I checked their website, searched my emails and called their staff prior to membership cancellation and they told me I didn't need to do anything and they wouldn't continue charging me after my 6 months is up. This verbal confirmation doesn't hold, and now I am out $375.
What if someone wants to cancel years after they make the purchase? I only had 6 months and couldn't remember to specifically write a request for cancellation 1 month prior to cancelling. This policy should be posted on their website (without having to go through the motions of making another purchase) for full transparency or at least sent out at the point of purchase, so customers can reference their old emails. Especially if the staff is not trained to share this info.
I had enjoyed my time with Surya (besides how crowded it was) before this happened. I wouldn't recommend anyone get a membership at Surya purely based on principle and...
Read moreI joined a yoga class looking for peace, but instead, I felt picked on and embarrassed. The teacher made me move to the back when there is plenty room in the front. He told me in front of everybody that Im doing everything wrong but refused to help me or correct my posture. Instead he just emphasized on that I couldn’t do what he said and should give up. He also said in front of everyone that I can’t tell left and right. He can’t help with that. What a bully! Everyone saw, and it felt awful. Then, he told me not to come back, saying the class wasn't for me. I don't know if it was because I'm Asian or something else, because I surely didn’t know the guy before, and never said a word before or during the class other than greetings. No matter what he was against he certainly made sure I feel discriminated and unwelcome. I just wanted to fit in and find some quiet, not feel singled out. We all deserve to feel welcome, especially in places meant to make us feel better.
His name is Gagan. He said he owns the studio - not surprising seeing so many people having troubles with money related issues in the review section. Please avoid at all cost. We are taking yoga classes, not a...
