It’s giving racism: Went here with a couple of friends from out of town and did not have a pleasant time. The customer service was absolutely horrible. When they were bringing food to the table, they were just dropping it anywhere. One of the waiters brought my food to the wrong table. When I told him it was mine he said let me go and confirm that after the table he left it at said it wasn’t theirs. As if I was a liar. If I were to have asked for something, they would bring it to the table and leave it with somebody who didn’t ask for it. We were there all of 20 minutes. The food was absolutely bland and not good at all. I took about two bites out of my food and so did my friends we all ordered different things and we did not like it. It was not palatable. And I can eat anything but I could not eat that. We let the one of the waiters know because there are multiple waiters coming to our table did not feel personal at all. We also let the manager know in the most respectful way possible (didn’t want to be the stereotypical, angry, black person) and he said well what do you want me to do about it? I was shocked. He started whispering to my friend who was offering to pay for us and I said hey we all have money here too, and we’re all customers as well. You can talk to us as well. None of us like our food my friend spoke up as well. He didn’t like his food and neither did my other friend like their food and he was like well you still need to pay. I hate to be the person that pulls the race card, but it definitely felt like we were not wanted there. He was assuming that we didn’t have money which he didn’t even try to hide. We asked if we can order something else on the menu because this was not it and we asked for recommendations and he basically told us that all the food is used at the same base and it all taste the same and he made it very apparent of wanting to get us out and make us leave then to accommodate us and again nobody yelled. Nobody raise their voice. We’re speaking in a very respectful manner and it just felt like we weren’t wanted. The waiters were not helpful and we were the only Black people in there. It was a very hurtful feeling because I do like the area and I’ve just never experienced service like...
Read moreIf you’re searching for an unforgettable Vietnamese-Chinese dining experience in Katy Asian Town, look no further than Tan Tan Wok. Our recent visit left us absolutely delighted, and I can’t recommend this spot highly enough!
From the moment we arrived, the spacious and well-decorated dining room set the stage for a relaxing meal. The service was impressively quick and attentive, with dishes arriving piping hot and beautifully presented.
Vietnamese Soup: A Standout Star We started with their Vietnamese soup, and it was a revelation. The broth was rich and aromatic, with a subtle depth of flavor that set it apart from any other pho or noodle soup we’ve tried in the area. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and the generous portions of protein and fresh herbs made every spoonful a delight4]. This is the kind of soup that warms your soul and keeps you coming back for more.
Top Side Dishes: A Culinary Adventure Tan Tan Wok’s menu is vast, but their side dishes truly shine. The House Special Rice Cake (banh bot chien) is a must-try-crispy on the outside, light and bouncy inside, with the perfect egg-to-rice cake ratio and a tangy soy vinaigrette for dipping[1. We also loved the Vietnamese Fried Egg Rolls, which were golden, crunchy, and packed with flavor. The Salt and Pepper Squid was another highlight: perfectly tender with a crunchy coating, just the right amount of garlic and chili, and utterly addictive.
Other favorites from our table included the eggplant with basil (savory and aromatic), and the stir-fried seafood with crispy noodles, which balanced a delicate crisp with a saucy, savory stir fry on top. Every dish showcased fresh ingredients and expert wok technique, delivering that coveted smoky “wok hei” flavor.
Final Thoughts Tan Tan Wok is a culinary gem in Katy Asian Town. Whether you’re craving comforting Vietnamese soup or eager to sample a variety of top-notch side dishes, this family-owned spot delivers on all fronts. The flavors are bold and authentic, the portions generous, and the atmosphere welcoming. We left fully satisfied and already planning our next visit-don’t miss out on this...

———— We are regulars here. My daughter loves the Peking duck and snow pea leaves. I do think that the duck is a bit scrawny compared to some other places in Bellaire. The Mongolian beef is good- I often add in some mixed veggies. I don’t care for the sweet and sour shrimp, but everyone else likes it. A lot of Vegan options, including the salt toasted tofu or eggplant; just make sure you request no fish sauce. The crispy noodles with seafood is popular.
The lemonade here is fresh and perfect. The Vietnamese coffee (sweetened condensed milk with café du monde coffee usually) is good. Coconut water is a real coconut cut open and is yummy.
I’ve actually had them do catering for me for a large event. All the food was ready on time. However, I would not recommend dishes where the meat or protein needs to stay crunchy, since they will likely be soft by the time you get back home. I would also recommend requesting that they pack any sauces or liquids in spill proof containers. I also recommend making sure that you have coolers or a car trunk liner, in case anything spills— you do not want fish sauce leaks in Texas heat.
They also own Jia Kitchen next door, and you can order from either menu in either restaurant. Overall, it’s not the best food I’ve ever had. However, it is consistently good and fresh Asian food. I am usually pleased with the service and the servers really hussle when it’s packed on...
