I'm writing this review as a long time consignor of Acostas. I read a couple of reviews from consignors regarding this location and I just wanted to share my personal experience. I like their Wheaton location, this one really is just closer.
They have had a recent manager change, this is a good thing. The new manager is friendly, helpful and has a good eye for design. He has staged my items that I brought in beautifully and they do a nice job arranging their new and used pieces so they all look well together. All of the sales people have been extremely nice.
I get by far more money for more items than I could expect to get elsewhere. I have had some terrible experiences on fb marketplace and this is definitely the better way to go. I read a review about a consignor not being contacted about unsold items being donated. First of all, when I consign my items, I went through the effort of getting them out of my house. Once they leave my house, I don't want them back lol, so truthfully if they didn't sell and they get donated than that is a win for me. However, if I did want something back they make it clear everywhere that as a consignor you have a consignor portal account and it is your responsibility to contact them if you want anything that didn't sell back. That is fair.
Lastly, they offer direct deposit which is something I have never heard of with a consignment store. You can have them mail a check, but I have had a check lost in the mail before, so I signed up for the direct deposit and I love that.
Anyway, in my opinion they offer a great service and have always fairly priced my items and got them sold for me right away. I have recommended them to several friends and neighbors and will...
Read moreIf you read the reviews, it's evident Acosta's is a good place to purchase items. In our case and anyone else that has higher end items, it's not a good place to sell pieces. We consigned a number of high end pieces and the experience was much less than we expected, and our expectations were muted. Once you hand items over to them, you're done. Do not expect to influence pricing because it just doesn't happen. We were told we received email communication on items sold and did not get any. We were given an estimate of what we could expect to receive (which I didn't expect) and we will receive less than 20% of that amount.
The worst example was a piece of art that cost us over $10,000. I dropped it off knowing it would not come close to that price. I discussed pricing with the gentlemen who does the web work and knew that piece was priced at $2,500 on multiple websites. I did not expect it to be priced lower. After a month, I checked our account and they sold the piece for $250, just as much as they priced another piece of art that cost us $250. I'm now expecting to have a chance to buy it back from FB Marketplace.
We had an expensive round dining room set with 8 chairs that basically acted as a display counter. You couldn't see the table but the cheap items for sale that were displayed on it were very visible. That ended up selling, for what I don't know since it takes them a LONG time to process checks.
They did sell lower end items and holiday pieces quickly.
Overall, not a pleasant experience and would steer you away from them for expensive items They tell a great story of the high end buyers they have but did not deliver...
Read moreI would not take any furnishings to this resale store. What a major disappointment… it seems that they continually change managers and I’m not sure they have a good eye for furnishings. Some of the real junk is over priced and the high end priced low. This alone makes dealing with them difficult, as the new regime does not agree with the old. Taking our high end quality fairly current furniture for resale was a major mistake. I should have burned it for kindling wood in my backyard for the prices that they put on all of it and sold it for. I am completely aware that used furniture does not bring big bucks. But the most annoying part was the first managers promised us we could pick up our furniture before timed out) and they sent it out for delivery to a “ charitable” ( who ever that is)organization for donation. The new manager said that was done by the last manager and they no longer contact you it’s now your responsibility to That is crazy we should have been told and allowed to reclaim our furnishings..I would have picked my furnishings and delivered to an organization of my choice. Think twice before using them for your resale… as a buyer you will do well as the seller is paying the price.
I just saw your reply … I never came into your store and made anyone “ cry” that’s truly absurd and a total lie. I would never do that! I still stand by what I said for the buyer it’s great for the seller there are better shops...
