There was a large garage sale in our community and while preparing for it I decided to sell my items to this store to save time. Unfortunately they took only about 10 of what I brought in to store, and only got $40 which my daughter and I used to go buy ice cream next door. The items that I took to the store were in good condition and a lot of what I took in had price tags. While waiting my turn, I noticed that this store caters to a certain demographic, eccentric dressers that like to stand out with anything that’s different. I witnessed a woman come in dressed like whats in the store with a bunch of bags full of items that she dumped on the counter. The items in her bad looked very worn but “different”. Meaning velvet zebra striped hats, several genie hats, old worn boots with laces, everything in her bags looked used but different and not in a good way, (at least in my opinion). I noticed a couple of females helping her, they seemed to like everything she brought in because the weirder the item the better (it seemed). I noticed them take a tule skirt with a safety pin in stead of a clasp and they took it. I was surprised. Then I saw another woman come in with several bags, her items were neatly folded and brand new with tags. This woman was dressed casual but in a tidy way, meaning she had linen lose pants with flat sandals, a tube top and an expensive purse. All of the items in her bags were in excellent condition, neatly folded virtually everything had tags on them, good quality, a lot of linen items, but she ended up taking back most everything she brought in. I heard them tell her that they would pay her $60 for what they did accept. Probably less than she paid for 1 of the items in her bags. She was there over an hour while the attendant distracted her with asking a bunch of questions and trying to distract her from the fact that they were rejecting her valuable items. I believe that there is a bias even at these stores. If you dont look the part and if you seem to have money, they might treat you different. Also, in my humble opinion, unless you are very desperate for very little money, dont bother coming to this store to sell because unless your items match who they’re selling to in that area, you will make a trip for nothing. I believe that this is just a gimmick to get people to visit their store. I do believe that there’s bias based on your appearance. ,I never thought that I would have a pretty woman situation in a place like that, honestly. ...

Read moreI have been to the Buffalo Exchange on a few occasions. To both shop and sell. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and I've read the bad reviews of what customers feel about the money they receive in exchange for said items. Reviewers should understand Buffalo Exchange is a brick and mortar business. Which means they have overhead. And is why they are not going to give you the maximum dollar amount you could receive if you sold it yourself. That's why online businesses such as Ebay and Offer Up give us the opportunity as online entrepreneurs to do the same but on a global level. Where I do agree with reviewers is the lack of brand and product knowledge regarding the value of what they do buy and sell. The system of employees rifling through items with no use of technology to me is archaic. How do they actually know what people are looking for? What is trending, selling for online, etc? Now a days people from all walks of life really enjoy if not love thrift shopping. Consumers are smart, most understand brands and the value of that brand. That's part of the allure of finding that clothing gem that Good Will or a store like the Buffalo Exchange missed because of that lack of brand knowledge. Some are looking at your items, purchasing them and flipping them online. It seems to me that the company line employees give of "we're looking for vintage" or 'we're looking for items that sell quickly in our store" is confusing since again the staff uses the eyeball test without technology to determine what that means to the Buffalo Exchange and that there is both vintage and trendy clothing with no rhyme or reason selling...
