I used my airline miles for a "free" subscription to the Star Tribune paper, but they sent me a bill for $46 (actually, it was from a collector, which demonstrates that the paper doesn't actually want to deal with their own customers). Support said this bill came because they (Star Tribune) kept sending papers to my doorstep after the cancellation date (that's on them). Thankfully they never had my debit/credit card information so they couldn't just auto-draft money at their convenience. Their Support team just read a script as if this happens all day every day. You have to opt out of "special issues" if you don't want to overpay--so I called as required to opt out. Then got charged for the issues anyway. When I called they said there was no record of me opting out. I then cancelled my subscription. But, suspicious of them, I called back to confirm the cancellation and of course they said there was no record of my calling to cancel!...
