EDIT: This is in response to Mr. Elsey's reply to my review. This building is not in a convenient location. It takes about 25 minutes to walk to Bruininks hall, and taking the light rail actually slows things down because it's so far from the Stadium Village station. Expect a 20+ minute commute if you plan on walking. The problems with the building aren't the type of issues that you can simply "move past." These problems are permanently embedded in the horrific quality of the building, and the insolent, condescending, and asinine management.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: "The Arrow" is Prime Place's sad attempt to shrug off the negative press from Minnesota newspapers. The original name is "Prime Place." Look for the Minnesota Daily articles about it, you won't regret it. Black mold was a problem during construction, codes were broken, you get the idea.
Here's a brief list of problems: pipes froze over winter break (in a new building, no less), floorplan drawings were not accurate, concrete floors with paint smears and dirt embedded in the finish are already cracking and look absolutely horrible, poor lighting in hallways makes it feel like you're walking around in a cavern, poor painting job throughout the building makes everything outside of the lobby look hilariously bad, the elevator constantly reeks of grease. The shower heads are so low that I'm going to be an olympic gymnast by the end of my lease. Anyone with eyes can see the rampant water damage already present in the concrete in the basement, likely from flooding during construction. The ceiling in the hallway on the 4th floor is already bowing in. I fully expect this building to either be condemned or collapse on its own within the next 10 years.
We were moved in over a month late because construction was so far behind, and more than half the building still isn't ready to live in. They told the hundreds of students who had signed for the north wing of the building that it would be ready by February- 2 weeks from February, and it hardly looks any different than it did 4 months ago.
To top it all off, management has been condescending and rude towards residents, then they have the audacity turn around and ask things of us like nothing ever happened. I got this snide email about using the repair tickets system (which is actually just a google form, there's no proper online resident portal) instead of emailing them when my faucet had broken in half and there was water shooting straight up into the light fixture.
Prime Place is a vertically-integrated company, meaning the construction, property management, and architecture are all managed by the same people. I won't name them, but the owners of the company are a couple of trust fund brothers living off their father's hard-earned patent money. Those slimey creeps even had the audacity to leave 5-star reviews for The Arrow. Their inexperience and ego really show in every aspect of this parasite of a company.
I would rather live in a tent behind Northrop than sign a lease with Prime Place, The Arrow, or whatever they want to...
Read moreI usually do not write reviews, but thought it was necessary to write this one. This ânewâ apartment, âThe Arrowâ, is formerly called Prime Place Apartments. Iâm assuming they wanted to change the name because there were so many bad reviews written about the building. Itâs hard to know where to start with this place. We were originally supposed to move in to the building at the beginning of September. We were notified a few DAYS before our move in date that the building was not going to be ready in time for move in. They kept telling us every week that we could move in at the end of the week, but we didnât end up moving in for about a month. Upon move in, we walked in our apartment to discover everything was completely covered in dirt and dust. There were obscenities written in the dust on the windows. Besides the apartment being filthy, the finishes of the whole apartment are just terrible. There are cracks in the bathtub, unfinished trim, damaged flooring, doors that wonât close correctly, etc. There is an extremely loud fan noise that is on 24/7 and cannot be turned off. It is so loud in the living room that it makes it difficult to hear the TV over the noise. This fan noise can also be heard from all three of the bedrooms and is especially bad in the bedroom by the living room. Further, we put in maintenance requests to have several issues fixed (cracked bathtub, broken trim, etc.) that were never answered. The floors other than the first floor are unfinished concrete, and we were told they will not be putting in actual flooring. In addition, the parking garage door is very intermittent. I have been living here for 3.5 months and have had several occurrences where the door would not open, so I was stuck outside until I could get someone to go through the main door and down to the garage to open the door from the inside. Further, management did not have any security on the building whatsoever for several weeks after move in, and there were issues with the system locking people out of the building. Most recently, we had a leak in our ceiling. The maintenance staff proceeded to tear out part of the ceiling in our living room without regard to cover up our furniture and possessions. They left our apartment completely covered in dust, insulation pieces and debris. Half of the building is still under construction and there is hardly progress being made. Only half of the building has residents living in it, while the other half is still being built (4.5 months after it was supposed to have been completed). Overall, it has been an absolutely terrible experience living here at prime place/arrow apartments. I would strongly discourage anyone from signing a lease here. Please look up prime place apartments reviews and news articles to find more information about...
Read moreWow. Not only do I hear that Prime Place re-branded (most likely to avoid all this negative publicity), but then I hear from the news TODAY (Feb 2018) that there are legal issues now with negotiations? So not only am I pissed that I was one of the many that got their leases cancelled, I also hear that people actually received compensation from Prime Place for their wrongdoing? When I in turn was told that "there is nothing we could do?" No excuses and this management is despicable.
I'm also seeing responses to some reviews here that "management tried to provide residents with accurate information as much as possible" during the FAILED construction process. Well let me tell you that after I signed my lease (around Jan-Feb of 2017), I didn't receive A SINGLE EMAIL OR ANY INFORMATION until literally a few weeks before move in day (late August). Residents should also know that they refused calls during this period. Again, this management is literally the worst I've ever seen.
Lastly, when they tried to cancel my lease, they gave me only 2 options. Either cancel my lease or delay it for a couple months. Well during this period of time when I was deciding what to do, Prime Place used some loopholes and said "never mind, we're just going to cancel your lease," so I didn't even get an option anyways. So now me and many other students were left to deal with leasing when term started in a few weeks.
Although it was OK for me, being a native Minnesotan. If push comes to shove I could've just stayed away at home for a period of time before figuring out my living situation. But the U of M is well-known for the amount of international students that it has, so for all the international students that were left on the streets by Arrow Apartments, who are literally thousands of miles away from home, it it just unforgivable. It's despicable. It's inhumane. And in all honestly, just horrible bad business strategy.
Don't lease here. It's not worth either your time or money to interact with anybody or anything from this place.
Side note: My roommate who also had their lease canceled, has yet to receive his safety deposit from Arrow Apartments. So from all the shady stuff that this company does, it just screams typical money-mongering behavior.
Edit: I find it hilarious that the owner is responding to his own 5 star review for his own company.
Edit: With leasing coming to an end for the school year, I just wanted to come back and edit this review. 7 years later and we still havenât gotten our deposit back đ Reading these other reviews from the past several months, it doesnât seem like Arrow has changed their shady money...
